Is anyone going to buy football cards, not to mention inferior college football cards, when there is no season? Now
is a good time to get on the horn and ask for replacments for any redemptions, when UD closes their doors
redemption holders will be the first people they screw!

Kevin
You obviously don't pay much attention to football cards.

and soon I think UD will go into bankrupcy - one of the online sellers just sent out their letter saying they are a UD authorized retailer and included all the rules you have to follow to buy boxes (or be denied boxes for one year if you live in Canada or forever if you break certain rules).

With UD's staff so small, I wonder how they are going to police the distribution of their product to create the "do not sell to" list.

I got an e-mail from Dave and Adam's yesterday detailing the authorized internet retailer program. no products sold to canada for a year (there goes the hockey market)
no re-selling for 90 days. UD has the codes from all cases/boxes and will keep track somehow.

I guess they are trying to lose what business they have left

I've always been a big UD fan and if they dissappear, I'm going to miss them. Sure there have been a lot of bumps in the road, but they were trendsetters in so many ways:

1. Remember in 89 when UD 1st came out and packs were $.99 and everyone else were $.35? Everyone thought they were crazy, but it was an instant success. 89 Griffey RC is still considered an iconic card. (yes even though they sell very cheap on eBay).
2. Holograms on the back of cards to try and stop fakes.
3. Find the Nolan, Reggie, Ted Williams, etc.
4. Exclusive deals with Jordan, Kobe, Lebron, Tiger, Gretzky and on and on.
5. Oh yeah.....2003/04 EXQUISITE Basketball. I remember getting sell sheets from a distributer and could get a 3 box case for $900 (when I had a license). I thought are you crazy. No one is going to pay that much for 1 PACK of cards. ::facepalm:: ::facepalm::

I know I'm missing a bunch, so a BIG THANK YOU to UD.

I remember the very first time I bought 1989 Upper Deck, it was at Fenway Park, outside before going into the game. I remembering opening them after sitting down and pulling the Griffey rc. A great memory that I will always hold on to. I loved Upper Deck then and still do to this day. It would be a sad day for me if they were completely gone.

college football is college football and those guys won't have cards duh. If you aren't watching Mark Sanchez
and Peterson play, then you aren't going to want their cards no matter what uni they are in. The fact is that
people want pro guys in pro uniforms NOT their college uniforms, sure one product is cool and maybe even
collectable, but we all know UD can't survive selling one product a year.

and I know trying to explain this to a bunch of guys who have to sell this crap for a living is useless....just keep
telling yourself this stuff is great!

oh and if anyone is looking to buy SPA autos, GU and singles I have some, let me know what you need!

College fans will want guys like Tebow, Cam Newton, Ingram and other's in their college uniforms more than in their NFL uniforms. Their programs have bigger fan bases than some of the NFL Teams.

Dear XXXXX,
We are pleased to announce that we have been selected by Upper Deck to be one of only a few Authorized Internet Retailers in the United States. Unfortunately, this agreement dramatically changes who we can sell to:

We can no longer sell to Canada until the product has been out for a full year
We can no longer sell to stores or re-sellers until the product has been out 90 days
Upper Deck has also made some changes that make it vital for customers to purchase their product from Authorized Retailers. In the unlikely event there is a product issue with your box or case (damages, collations, missing cards, etc...) Upper Deck Customer Care will be able to assist you. If you purchase new Upper Deck product from a non-authorized re-seller Upper Deck will likely not be able to assist. Additionally, if you need help with redemptions and purchased from an Authorized Retailer you will get enhanced customer support.

For collectors and box breakers there has never been a better time to buy new Upper Deck products from us!

Important: In the event that you purchase a box from us and attempt to re-sell it within 90 days of the product's release date, it is highly likely this will be found out by the Upper Deck Hobby Enforcement Team. If the box is tracked back to you as the seller, Upper Deck will be providing Authorized Retailers with a Do Not Sell list, meaning you will not be able to acquire Upper Deck product in the future.

If you are interested in purchasing new Upper Deck product from us your intent must be to open the product, not to re-sell the boxes.

Could you explain? I could be wrong but looks like they want to encourage brick-mortar stores/case rippers and avoid MamaBear situation.

Large distributors will still be able to sell, correct?

DING DING DING. Trying to brand Pro and College collectors as the same customer is like branding a baseball HOF and prospector together - they're two species of the same genus. They each have different practices and different needs.

They're also more inclined to keep a player's prices up for college product, even if they fail at the NFL level. For example, guys like Gino Torretta who only had success at the college level can still bring in $10-20 for a "junk" college autograph card from 1993 Classic Four Sport.

1. Whats the big deal about selling to Canada?
2. Upper Deck Hobby Enforcement Team - So they are going to pay people to sit and watch ebay all day? Seems productive.
3. So if I buy a box of cards with my money, and then choose to sell it on ebay, before 90 days, then my name will somehow get on a do not sell sheet? So one day I walk into my LCS and he will have to check my licence to make sure I can buy UD products? I can't see anyway that they would be able to do this.
