...because they are BANNED from postseason play. That has to suck for them. I wonder if this ban is going to deter some future recruits from signing with them or even cause some current guys to switch schools since they won't have the chance to be in the spolight with no bowl games.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... penalties/

The legacy of former USC coach Pete Carroll official bears a coat of tarnish. Whether Saints running back Reggie Bush will be required to surrender his 2005 Heisman Trophy remains to be seen.

Bruce Feldman of ESPN reports (via SportsByBrooks.com) that the Trojans have received a two-year postseason ban, along with other penalties.

That means no bowl game for the perennial January 1 powerhouse this season or next. All because of stuff that happened when Carroll was the coach.

Look for more details to emerge in the coming days. For now, the only thing we can infer is that Jim Mora apparently was right all along about Carroll.

this means all of their JR/SRs are available to transfer with no sit out penalty.

Wow, I did not know that.

I don't care much for the NCAA but glad to see them treat USC the way they did Alabama. One has to wonder how Ohio State got off the hook with Clarrett ?

Isn't Carroll/school staff more to blame than Bush?

they are just as guilty for knowing what was going on and not doing anything about....but most of this is on Reggie's dumb ass....trust me...I'm just as pissed at Mike Garrett and Pete Carrol...but what can been done to them at this point??? I'll just have to go to a Seaducks game and sit as close to their sideline as possible so i can heckle Pete "The Cheat" Carrol!!!

Just like with Bama, I think the National Communists Against Athletes wanted to "send a message" to a big name program. Personally, I think the penalties were too severe, but I think that's part of the "message".

With some guys probably transferring, and with the lost scholarships, their usual team depth, especially on defense, will be alot less. It took Miami about 6 years to recover and some would say they still haven't gotten all the way back.

Same thing happened at Michigan over Timeout Boy Chris Webber.
I think it is total crap that these guys can do this and go on to make millions while screwing their colleges in the process.
I hate Pete Carroll, everyone knew he was guilty when he bolted for the NFL.

They need to fix all scholarship athletics first before anyone is singled out.

Let's face it, of the student athletes that actually graduate, only a few would be suitable for even a cashier's position at a run-down grocery store. Sure, there are some amazing student athletes, but the entire thing is a farce.

As far as I am concerned, there is only one reasonable solution.

Give the player one year of college/room/board credit (for usage at anytime...in 10 years, 20 years, etc.) for every year they play - whether they use them simultaneously is their concern. Therefore a moron (like most college turned NBA players) can simply play basketball, make some money for the school and not sully the education system. Once the player is flat broke after blowing a few million too much every year, he can go back to school and take real classes and get a real education if he chooses. If he doesn't, no big deal.

The fact remains that the majority of players who turn pro never went to school for the education, they just went through the "minor leagues" to get into the NFL or NBA.

Fix the system, and then worry about everything else, but right now, no one cares about anything other than the bottom line.
