Hello everyone,
I guess I’ll post a little bit about me.
I’ve collected baseball cards since about 1991 when I was 9. First pack was a 91 Score, but it was the 91 Upper Deck that got me hooked.
As a teenager I enjoyed the great summer of 1998. It was magical at the time…and nothing will ever make me feel differently!
After 21 years I recently retired from the Army am quite bored for a change.
Lifelong project “set” is my collection of “last year” Topps cards for all HOFers, and stars big and small. Basically it’s the last Topps card that shows full stats from 1957-2020 (no cards from 58,60,62,71,17,18). The condition or value of the cards don’t really matter to me, as long as I can see the stats on the back lol. If anything, I’ve always felt that some wear adds character. My favorite last year cards are 73 Mays and 75 Aaron. My most wanted last years are 69 Mantle (I have a 67), a 57 Williams (how did they not make a 59 or even 61!) and a 57 Campanella.
My next set is the same type of player’s All Star Rookie Card from 1960-2020 (minus 74,79-86). The first rookie cup I saw was a 1990 Griffey and I just had to have ‘em all. My favorite rookie cups are 69 Bench and 64 Rose. This set is nearly complete, so my most wanted is a 62 Torre. Again, condition isn’t terribly important. If anything, I just like them to be well centered.
I also collect RCs and second year cards if a true rookie is out of reach. I have a couple from 1969 of Nolan Ryan that I absolutely cherish. That was part of the draw of the All Star Rookie for me growing up. We never had any money, so I’m not getting a 63 Pete Rose…but I can get a card that says “Rookie” on it! Most wanted RCs are 75 Brett & Yount.
That about covers it.
Cheers!
Trevor
