He just talks about insightful things that other broadcasters wouldn't care to discuss. I just listened to him talk, over a span of 2 innings, about Bronson Arroyo teaching himself to become a guitar guru.

His voice is great as well. Dodger fans, consider yourself lucky.

He comes a close second to Harry Kalas as my favorite broadcaster of all time.

I've never cared for the Dodgers or been a fan of the team but Scully is one of the all-time greats.

I remember when NBC employed him to do the game of the week when they carried that coverage in the 80's - not a bad way to grow up learning the game at all.

Same. I hate Manny, and I don't like the majority of their "fans". I don't mind their true fans(especially the ones on here, they all seem to be great guys) but I can't stand the majority of them. I know Philly fans get a bad rap, but there has never been gangs with knives at games threatening people.

After Harry died, I really started to appreciate good announcers and always try to listen to Vin Scully when he's on.

He is good, but his voice is fracking boring lol. 8-) Best in the business though.

I was gonna say, the guy puts me to sleep. I've never understood the hype. Guess it's my East Coast bias.

May your favorite team hire Joe Morgan and Chris Berman as your new radio team.

We've been spoiled here in LA to have had Chick Hearn for the Lakers and Vin for the Dodgers. His voice is as much a part of my life as any member of my family and I have every game on in some capacity around the house just to hear that voice in the background somewhere. I hate to think about it but it will be a sad day when he no longer broadcasts. I still hate listening to the Lakers without Chick and I imagine it will be the same without Vin.

"I don't believe what I just saw." Even as a Giants fan I have to respect that.

Most of the people that call him boring did not grow up when most games were on radio only I think cable tv started in like 1986 or so where I lived and even then all you saw was the cubs and braves on wgn and tbs

If you're referring to the Kirk Gibson homer in the '88 Series, I gotta give credit where it's due - that was actually Jack Buck. Great call by a great announcer.

Buck's call on the Gibby miracle

Yes and also Jack Buck's infamous Go Crazy Folks Go Crazy after Ozzie's HR
And I will also remember him well for his very touching speach after 9/11
The thing about most great radio announcers is that they can tell the story so well that you can picture it in your mind like you were really watching it ;) Its a very rare talent
