We know neither of those card made the cut as shown. That makes something like that more fun.

That's twice in 24 hours you used the term vintage to describe 80's stuff.

Darn kids...

Had a woman call me last year asking if I had interest in buying her ANTIQUE 1993 cards!

Vintage does not mean, or necessarily refer to something "old", but rather a certain year. Collectors are weird.

True, but "vintage" should only be from the days before we started using the word itself...

I don't think '80s cards are vintage either.
However, 1981 was 33 years ago, a third of a century (crazy!) so that's certainly vintage to a large portion of today's collectors.

When I was collecting in 1990, 33 years ago was 1957, which was definitely vintage.
33 years is a long damn time, even for a 41 year old like me.

Just had the "when is it vintage" question with a friend yesterday.

Both of us said pre 1980 when it comes to cards.

But considering '81 was the first year for Donruss, I'll stretch my belief.

I think one could consider anything produced prior to 1986 as vintage. 1986 is when the whole ball card craze started and Topps started to crank the presses a little more.

Very cool! I love these ad sheets, I have a few that show Gary Carter cards and a couple from Topps football that also show cards that never were, here's a 1980 Topps football

I recently started selling older comics (late 80s to mid 90s) and noticed that card companies actually advertised occasionally in them.

Great ad. I think the Brett used in the sell sheet is a close up cropped version of his actual 1981 Donruss card. The Schmidt definitely is not.
