First ballot in my opinion. He is the reason why I don't like the benchmark stats, because although he may get to the 500 home run mark he has never been about that. He has done everything the right away in my eyes and has always played the game hard. He was the definition of a five tool player and was one of the most hitters in the league for years.

Yes 1st Ballot all the way. Vlad and Pujols are the only 2 players in the last decade in the top 10 in every offensive category.

If we know he didnt do steroids which I dont believe he did, then yes. If the era wasnt skewed by those stats of steroid users he would stand out so much more.

I think so.

When you think of a Hall of Famer, you compare him to the players from his era and decide if he was ever considered one of THE best players.

And for a very good stretch of his career, Vlad was.

First ballot? I don't think so. but two or three ballots later? I could see it happen, once people really take a look at his career.

Since I'm not a fan of Vladdy, nor am I a hater, I can definitly appreciate his abilities! Having said that, to me he is a definit maybe and perhaps a bit leaning towards yes. He has had many bright moments in his career, an MVP, lots of AS appearances, solid power numbers, ect.. So yeah, why not? I could see him making the hall! However, do I think he is in the same league as a sure fire 'first ballot' type player as Griffey Jr, Pujols, Jeter, ect? Not really.

I think the biggest thing that hurts Vlad is he was on a team that nobody cared about for a long time... and then finally went to a playoff team that nobody seems to care about either. he is probably a better player than Jeter. better avg., more homers, better defense in his prime IMO. he just doesnt have the postseason.

I can agree with that.

I would consider him a first ballot as well. The guy is awesome and likely the best DH in baseball this year at the age of like 90.

There's no question about it and I'd love to hear a legitimate argument against him.

Other than '96 (played in 9 games) and 2009, he has hit over .300 in every season, and in 2009 he hit .295.
From '98 to '07, he had 100+ RBI's every season except one (he only played 112 games in 2003).
From '98 to '08, he hit 25+ home runs every year (over 40 twice and over 30 eight times).
In 2002 was one HR away from 40-40
Four times he walked more than he struck out.
Struck out more than 75 times TWICE in his career.
Four times he's had 200 or more hits in a season
Currently 35th in MVP Share (1 win) per baseball-reference (everyone above him is a HOFer and highly-debatable HOFer except Dave Parker).
12th career in assists as a Right Fielder - and he had one of the best arms in baseball in the early part of the 2000's.
Career .322 hitter with RISP
Career .302 hitter with RISP and 2 outs
Career .323 hitter in late and close games
Career .320 hitter in tied games
(he was clutch!)

The guy was flat out good and had one of the most beautiful-ugly swings you'll ever see.

If Vlad can stay productive for a little while longer there is no doubt in my mind he will be a first ballot HOF.

I think people are quick to overlook his defense and speed because he has basically been limited to being a DH in recent years. In the late 90's/early 00's, he was a serious base stealing threat and had one of the most impressive outfield arms I have seen. It's a shame that, like Andre Dawson, playing on the turf in Montreal probably made a significant contribution of better all-around players of the past 30 years.

It's not a question. He'll get 90% AT LEAST of the votes 1st ballot. He's as much of a lock as Derek Jeter, Ivan Rodriguez, Albert Pujols, Ichiro, etc.

so does he go in as an Expo or an Angel? Played 1004 games with Montreal and 846 with Anaheim.

I'm sure he'll go in as an Angel, he won his MVP there. Much like Dawson will go in as a Cub this year.
