I collect Peyton Manning and would love to pick up a NFL logo or shield. I have not really tracked the final prices of them, but see that the ones currently listed have prices of at least $2K. Granted, one of them is the quad logo with three other players. When the GU trend got started we saw jersey/bat cards sell for extreme amounts. I even sold a Mark Brunell jersey card for over $100 once upon a time. As supply increased the prices bottomed.

When it comes to a card of significance like a logo or shield I know they can't make 400 copies of that card from one jersey. However, what sticks out in the back of my mind is the possibility of paying a price for a card that may bring half of that in say 5 or 10 years. I know logo/shield cards will never be as numerous as jersey/patch cards but the total population of logo/shield cards will increase over time. I would love to get the thoughts of those of you big in the logo/shield market on this one. Buy now or hold the money and wait?

I wouldn't wait to get one. Once he retires, he won't have too many more shield cards made of him, because there won't be a supply of his jerseys anymore. How many shields do you see of guys like Marino, Elway, Montana, etc? Not many.

I would agree. The logo shield is the one unique piece put into a card that can't be duplicated too many times. I do not see a drop in prices like other cards. As a refrence to prices, the manning logo shield i posted earlier that i pulled from NT in 07 i was offered a little over $2,000 for it, but i was not interested as it is a PC item. keep us posted.

I think Peyton Manning is one of the rare exceptions. I just don't see his stuff ever going down. If you get the opportunity, grab one. Even if it's right now in a frenzied market. It sucks when a player is in the "hype stage" because it's certain you will over pay. BUT, the good thing is, all that players great cards start popping up to the surface on ebay.

After seeing the number of Logo Shields that came out in Panini products this year, I've gotta disagree with some of these guys.

Guys like Sanchez and what not must've had 30 logo shields or more..

It's said that these companies are selling their souls because they know consumers are frackin' idiots.

You're talking about ROOKIES, not Peyton Manning.

I was going to say the same things. Rookie logos are completely different than a game-worn logo. It is unfortunate that the companies have them wear a hundred jerseys at the premiere and put them in cards as event worn. Think of it this way, at best there might be 100 logo cards of peyton during his career and I think that is a VERY high number. There are only so many game used jersey of Peytons these companys can get and there is only one logo per jersey.

So for those of you guys who track these things, what does a Manning shield typically sell for? Obviously the $2,600 BIN for the quad signed logo wasn't hit but what would you all expect a card like that to go for at auction? Still kinda torn on the discussion in that the money for a logo could be used for some high end stuff that should not lose value. Of course a logo will not hit bottom but time would certainly be the enemy.

Oh, so you two are saying that companies won't find a way to saturate the market if something sells well?

I'm sure there'll come a time when Donruss' release schedule includes at least 5-10 event worn manning shields per high-end product.

If there are umpteen event worn shields, game worn shields will come down.

Card companies decided to just cram more stuff into each card, and that trend will continue.

blargh.

Agreed!! There is big difference between rookie premier logo cards and authentic game worn logo cards of the games best player. You can only get ONE NFL shield off of a Manning gamer. Manning gamers sell for $5K++++

I mentioned what I was offered for my Manning NT logo from 07. I have not seen any other sales really for some time. It would also depend on the product the shield is from and how desireable it looks. Just my .02 cents.

I can't believe this gained steam.

You guys are preaching to me like I believe that jerseys contain 8 different logo patches.

If you realistically think that the trend of 'event-used' logo patches won't spread to established players, you're very, very naive.

If something makes money, a company will spit it out.

I personally do not think an "event worn" logo will make a dent in the "game used" logo market. If anything it might drive up the values of the game used logo patches. My concern, however, still iies in the fact that as time goes on more and more companies will produce Manning logo cards. I checked the checklist of the '07 Exquisite and there were at least 3 Manning logo cards in that set alone. I know that once Manning quits playing the number of available jerseys will stop increasing. However, I'd hate to drop $1,000+ for a logo card just to be able to pick one up in 5 years for half that. Look at Lettermen cards and how far they have dropped. Is there a site that would list the total number of logo cards Manning has had produced to date?

I don't think anyone is saying companies aren't gonna saturate the market with shields soon enough. But true game worn 1/1 logos are always gonna pull a HUGE premium over a manufactured logo /5 or/25 or whatever.

Look at lettermen cards, the event worn and manufactured are everywhere now and can be had for next to nothing. But the true game worn ones still fetch top dollar.

I see the '07 Manning shield was listed online. Does anyone know if the seller is a member here? I presume the card is legit?
