In a sudden turn of events from the Nationals reportedly bumping their offer to Mark Teixeira, the Washington Post reports that "there are strong indications that the Red Sox will announce they have landed the highly-coveted slugger."

I'm not sure how valid the source is but you can read it here.

"A major league baseball source has told The Washington Times' Thom Loverro that there will be an announcement today regarding the future of free agent first baseman Mark Teixeira.

While the source declined to discuss specifics, there are strong indications that the Red Sox will announce that they have landed the highly-coveted slugger, who has been courted this off-season by several major league clubs, including the Angels, Orioles and Nationals.

The Red Sox have been considered one of the lead contenders in the Teixeira sweepstakes, but it was unclear whether the team would be able to meet the asking price from agent Scott Boras, who had hoped to land a contract for as much as $200 million over ten years. Last week, Red Sox owner John Henry told reporters that the team was no longer pursuing the player, but the statement was widely seen as a negotiating maneuver.

The Orioles and Nationals had hoped to sign him in part because he is a Severna Park, Md. native, and the Nationals were reportedly willing to bid especially hard.

It is still unclear how much the Red Sox offered Teixeira, but there were reports last night that the Nationals had boosted their bid in a last-ditch effort to sign him.

MASN's Roch Kubatko reported last night that Nationals might have upgraded their offer to the first baseman to an eight-year deal worth between $178 and $184 million.

The Angels earlier this week said they were no longer pursuing him.

We'll report more as we hear it."

HORRIBLE move baeball wise to go to either the Natties or Orioles, but great fiscally.

Guess we are seeing what's most important to Big Tex. And that's fine with me. I'll never kill someone for taking to dollars. Thier the ones that have to live with playing for a ****** franchise.

HAHA, no, I didn't.

I guess I may need to. I just figured since it was Washington Post that it was about him signing with the Nats,

Oh well.

I DO NOT want to see him go to the Red Sox. I like Big Tex and if he does he's going to be added to my MLB For List and I will not like him anymore.

Finally, now if we can just get some more Clemens/McNamee stories printed to fill this void I'll be satisfied.

Am i the only 1 who thinks that Teixeira isn't worth 8 years 180 Million range? He is a good player, but not that kind of money. :?

I think theres a few reasons aside from his numbers why hes getting this kind of money. 1. He proved he can handle playing for a big market team with the Angels and in the playoffs he was great. 2. Theres really no one like him coming up on the free agent market for at least 2 years. I like Matt Holiday but theres just too much unknown as far as how good he would be outside Colorado. Im not sure hes worth this much money, but I will really be interested in seeing how much Pujols signs for after the 2010 season. Going by this deal, Pujols should be able to get about $225 million for 6-8 years if he wants to leave St. Louis (which I know a lot of people on the boards dont expect to happen).
