"Diamondbacks pitcher Brandon Webb said that, given the circumstances, it would be difficult to come up with a deal that makes sense for both him and the team. "

...he also said earlier he did not want to talk about an extension with the team.

I have been saying for a while we should've traded him this year, or next season

I hope hes a Met in 2010

I initially suggested a Webb for Reyes deal or some sort

I like Reyes and would be awesome in AZ

Mets would be fools to do such a thing. John Lackey will be heavily courted by the Mets this offseason to fill that #2 spot in the rotation anyway.

Knowing the way the dbacks opperate now, I'm not surprised. They don't take ANY RISK other than signing Byrnes and Chris Young to overpriced contracts. The players that derserve them (cough cough reynolds cough cough upton cough cough) seem to never get them and this team will keep failing if they don't keep their key players...

I understand where the team is coming from. It's difficult to give a multi-year extension to someone fresh off a shoulder injury when you already don't have a great deal of money to throw around.

Webb will be back in 2010, though, as the article also says:
"He said the Diamondbacks told him the same thing Managing General Partner Ken Kendrick was quoted as saying last week: that they plan to pick up the $8.5 million option for 2010, barring some unforeseen turn of events.

“It was definitely good to hear,” he said. “I came out of it real optimistic.”

So they were smart enough to take that risk at least, and Webb said he would be willing to negotiate a contract extension mid-way through next year once it's proven he can pitch again, so a deal is not out of the picture yet either. It's a wait and see thing. Best case scenario is that he returns to form and they extend him past 2010, and if not, then hopefully they can get someone of value for him at the trading deadline next year. Either way, I am certainly happy he will be back in a D-backs uniform.

Will the D'Backs be able to sign him past 2010? It seems like Brandon is looking for a higher price/longer term contract than the Diamondbacks will pay.
PS Webb Collector - I have a card you might need for your collection

Milwaukee in 2010? The Brewers are going to make a pitching push....

Hardy, Gamel, and maybe some more? I'd have no heart-ache with that.

That wouldnt be a bad package, but the DBacks have very little use for either player. With Reynolds at 3rd and Drew at SS, neither would get the DBacks going very much.

Even if he does return to Arizona in 2010 Dan Haren will still be the ace.
