Morning all. Furnace work gets started at 9 this morning. Went to make a little room around the furnace, only to find out the deep freeze went out on us at some point in the past week as well. When it rains it pours.

If you lost any food in the freezer some homeowners insurance covers the loss with no deductible. You might check with your agent.

Also, ask the HVAC person if there were signs of a power surge or lightning strike.

I tried. Unfortunately, it's just a hole in the heat exchanger, which generally happens over time. I tried getting insurance to cover the hotels for 4 days, but no luck since it wasn't a power surge or lightning strike that caused it.

And I'll be honest, the food in the freezer was probably ready to be tossed anyways. We have one in the basement and then put one in the garage a year ago. We probably hadn't gotten into the freezer in the basement for 6 weeks. Not much in there, but enough to smell when you open the lid, that's for sure.
