Good Afternoon Gents! Busy day at work and late night with a horrible loss at the M's game last night. In regards to MTSS...the list of names was to be used to quote and add your name too. I should have been more specific so I apologize to anyone who felt left out which most certainly was not the intent.

MTSS sign up, $50 gift - Quote and post your name with this list:
***Rules and who is able to sign up are not readily available at this time. Please save your questions for a soon to be later date on more information. If you are interested, certainly sign up and details will be ironed out soon. In a nutshell the $50 gift is for ONE card, not two $25 cards or fifty $1 cards. This has been a huge success in the past and we must keep it that way. Again, more information to come but please know and understand the $50 one card MINIMUM. Most members have gotten the minimum card and then given much extra. This is certainly not the rule, but has easily been the trend.

Laxcat, ChasHawk - following up on a conversation you two were having last night in yesterday's MT:

Topps Venezuelan cards were Topps issues, just printed locally in Venezuela on inferior card stock. I've heard that Central and South American baseball fans had a long tradition of "scrapbooks," dating back to the Cuban paper-stock card issues of the 1920's, 30's and 40's like Aguilitas and Caramelo Deportivo, that were issued with paste-in albums.

Topps didn't issue an official album for earlier Venezuelan sets, but did for the 1964 issue. Because of the album, a significant number of 64's do have paper loss from being removed from albums.

How did Topps get to Venezuela? This from a Net54 post:

"The first reference I can find to Topps in Venezuela has Joseph Shorin traveling there in August 1953, which I suspect was an exploratory trip and probably to find an business agent and establish relationships. The Shorin's may already have made contacts or at least been introduced there through what I perceive to be a loose Central American/Cuban/Puerto Rican network they were part of going back to the American Leaf Tobacco days but I am not sure about that playing a role in Venezuela.

Joe Shorin made another trip there in April of 1957 and that is probably the start of the process to produce and sell baseball cards there. Someone else must have followed through as Shorin would become sick (and not recover) not too long after that but he was President of Topps and may have been the one to sign contracts and agreements locally.

My understanding's that a local printer did these sets. I've seen the name Benco, at least for 1962, and C. A. Lithoven for 1968"

Great info, man. Thanks a bunch!

The PayPal app is frustrating right now. It recently update, and it won't let me log in. Getting ready to uninstall it and then reinstall it to see if that will fix the problem

Congrats Dave!

I'm moving into the house I bought last year, I rented it to a friend due to him having a short notice to move. Now I can enjoy it! Lots of work on my plate now, moving, hunting, and fishing. I'm going to have to limit any hobby related purchases, new furniture to be bought.

Good afternoon.

Chemistry was a disaster (again...). The professor spent a lot of time talking about why he brings pencils to class, why we don't have to multiply stuff by 1, and his other classes, amongst other things. He's teaching us very little, which is scary because we have a test next week.

I would have dropped his class by now, except we spent $400 on books and I don't want that to go to waste.

Thanks Ralph ! Been renting for over 5 years now with incredibly questionable folks downstairs, across the street and on either side of us. No place for Naomi to play and the downstairs tenants piling up their garbage on the porch & in the backyard will now be replaced with a solid neighborhood, a decent sized yard & a garage to actually use.

I'll be in the same boat with very little in the way of hobby purchases for the foreseeable future.

Charlie - It's basically a contract for deed. Unfortunately, with my not-so-great credit and Theresa's lack of credit, was a major hindrance in trying to get any sort of funding (FHA 1st Time Home Buyers, Rural Housing or any other type of loan). 8% is the rate we're paying a go-between so hopefully in a few years we can get a loan from a bank or through a lending company, pay off the go-between and then pay off the bank at a lower rate.

Oh OK. Had never heard of that before.

As long as you guys are happy with the house that's all that matters.
