What are the boundaries for what you can and can't put in the "note"? Or what are eBay boundaries?

Can you offer something high but in the note say some crazy term like "I demand another item of my choosing from your store if you accept this offer" lol

I don't think asking for free shipping is out of line.

then send an actual message asking for free shipping and if agreed have the listing changed. im pretty sure the buyer was trying to be shady and sneak that in there like stated early cause $18 looks higher than $15 plus $3

I agree.

I would NEVER offer the $18 and in the note say "well this is for free shipping" - that's just bullsh!t IMO. You're clearly rolling the dice on the person not reading it or whatever.

I'm interested in what eBay says. There has to be limits on what you can and can't put in there.

ok so just got off the phone with ebay and they say that the notes have nothing to do with the final sale price regardless if they state in the note they want free shipping. so in this case when I accepted the offer of $18 regardless of his note asking for free shipping he still owed me the full amount that he offered for the item $18 plus my listed shipping cost of $3. they also said as a seller if there is a problem with the deal I could have canceled the transaction since he wasnt holding up his end of the agreed offer he sent. I mainly called to check and find out the policy for future reference in case someone tried to pull that with one of my jackets or larger items. no way id foot $15+ shipping if I didn't see a note in the comment box. the note box is a form of communication through buyer and seller but does not have any affect to an offer sent for an item.

unless you go in and change the shipping for them before they send the offer they are obligated to pay what they offered with original shipping cost plus offer price of the item.

not thanks for the offer if you except this counter offer you agree to pay double my shipping fee since I have a bad cold and don't really want to leave the house....lol

I have used the notes section many times, and admittedly, once asking for free shipping. I have also thrown out best offers and added in the "notes" that it was dependent on another card or cards that I was placing a best offer for. I would be upset if the seller did not read my note before accepting. Needless to say, anytime I have used the "notes" it has gone without a hitch.
