Welcome to the 1980's Appreciation Thread. I hope that this thread becomes a place to discuss all things 1980's baseball card related.
All of it should be loved, regardless of how much was made or not made. From Mothers Cookies to Topps Coins, i love it all and i know
im not the only one.
Maybe this will be an "eye opener" for some of our younger members who most likely weren't even born until the 1980s were over. There's
nothing wrong with that at all, just throwing it out there. The 80's sure were a different time to be a baseball card collector. i guess you
kind of had to be there to understand what i mean.
Maybe it's that im going to be 40 this year and want to go back to how it used to be in my life, maybe im just a idiot, or a collecting fool,
some might say im both. i really love baseball and honestly love baseball cards more then the game itself. there truly is no wrong way
to collect, and i respect everyone for what they decide to collect, it would be nice if everyone else felt that way. it might make FCB an
even better place to hang out.
i'd love this to be a thread where people not only share scans and information, but stories about themselves if they happened to be collecting back in the 1980's
i will start with a short story that ive shared before. i know im not the only one that gets certain "images" in their brain when they hear about a particular product. i have a lot of very strong memories that are tied to cards. One i will share now...
1987 Topps. Hearing that phrase throws me right back to the spring of 1987 just as baseball was about to start up again (and before the Gooden fiasco) i bought a box of 1987 Topps wax from a local candy store, about a mile from my house. i rode my bike there to buy the box. on the way home, it started to rain and i remember putting the box inside my sweat jacket to protect it during the ride home. man i miss those days.
ok, since i started this thread, might as well kick it off with possibly the three iconic cards of the decade (of course that IS debateable)
Thank you all for taking the time to read the thread and i hope that this thread makes you remember better times for those of us old enough to remember the 80s and maybe spark a little collecting fire under those that aren't.
