Another LJBiggestFan "special proof" issue - and he's got all the major sports this time around.

Do you think he throws in the 'water sides' as his provenance?

Interesting. This time around he's edited out his story about finding them in a printer's dumpster or was it his secret Topps' connection? I guess it must be hard to recall which lie worked best huh?

Someone please remind me - what was it: Warm Water or Cold Water that worked best? I recently did the cold water trick on 2005 Zenith, but I could've sworn whomever revealed this scam said it was warm.

Yep. Saw his sad damaged cards - i.e. printer's proofs - last night. I miss being able to email bidders and letting them know what a sham the seller was. Think I'll pass on his Grace:

In the past he claimed he had sheets of these Chrome proofs. Asked for a pic...it was a few cut chrome cards placed side by side.

Also has sold other "proof" cards in the past, in reality all they were are hand cut cards with the printers color bars showing.

He has had some real proofs in the past but with fake/misrepresented ones mixed in.

I must have missed reading about this the first time around... I'm willing to stay after for remedial reading though if anyone has a link to share.

Interesting...

Look at his past auctions. He's doing quite well.

PRE FCB on BMB I remember reading he was at $4k from the Chrome Proofs. After tracking the sales for awhile...sadly, true.

Does that Pirateninja guy still sell his? At least this X or current FB Cap'n punk would respond to emails.

we should start a thread where you post fake cards on ebay and have every one report it in hopes of getting them removed

Lance,

I saw Bustinknuckles had bid on some of these, so I emailed him last night to tell him to stay away.

He doesn't know me. May mean more coming from you.

How does he make these?

I haven't done it myself, but basically you take a chrome card and soak it water.

Not sure if it's warm water, cold water, or just room-temperature H2O. But after a bit of soaking the paper element can be gently removed. You then press the foil element in between some light weights - like some paper towels and a couple of books. Some further wetting down with a damp cloth to remove the remaining bits of paper and a bit more pressing.

Again, that's how it was described by the guy who figured out how it was done.

The seller actually went on to defend his b.s. by claiming that his "proofs" didn't have the bubbling effect - therefore they were 'real'.

Rather it was just the speed and technique utilized. A bit more patience will avoid the bubbling effect. Practice it seems does make perfect. Even if that perfect is perfectly ****ed.

He got me for a couple of those in the past, I was informed too late.

It happens to a lot of player collectors. Check out this fake I got conned into purchasing:

These were supposedly the Fanfest Playing Cards used at '97 Fanfest (Cleveland). Even though I already owned a genuine example - the snake oil guy threw such a good pitch - forty bucks was out of my pocket & long gone before I knew I had been rooked.

I e-mailed the seller with a link to this thread and here was his response:

Why don't you post these pictures on that thread then??? All these idiots have no idea what they're talking about...yes, you can fake these by boiling cards and ruining them. Although they did make UNCUT Sheets of these too....here is my proof!

Here are the pictures he sent me to prove the the proofs he is selling are not fake:

I don't know if this proves anything or not but just thought I would pass the info along.

if that's a real uncut sheet, all that could prove is that he soaked the whole freakin' thing in a large pan of water and removed the back. It's ridiculously easy to make these 'proofs'. Last year I took a few of my '97 Finest dupes and created some of these 'proofs' myself. Before I knew about the scam, I bought a few Butlers years ago, thankfully for small change.
