Westmoreland’s surgery a success

Ryan Westmoreland had successful surgery Tuesday to repair a broken collarbone.

The 19-year-old outfielder for the Single-A Lowell Spinners suffered the injury when he slammed into the left-field wall after making a dramatic catch at LeLacheur Park on Aug. 28 in Lowell. He had a plate and screws inserted during the procedure performed by Red Sox team physician Thomas Gill at Massachusetts General Hospital.

The Portsmouth native will be out for six weeks and will begin his rehab in October at the organization’s Player Development Complex in Fort Myers, Fla. According to Red Sox director of player development, Mike Hazen, Westmoreland should be ready to hit in January.

The 172nd overall pick in the 2008 draft, Westmoreland hit .296 with 15 doubles, 3 triples, 7 homers, 35 RBI, 19 stolen bases and a .401 on-base percentage in 60 games for the Spinners in his first professional season.

Not ready to part with those just yet, but I do have a regular Sig Series auto/1199 and three un-autographed Metal Golds. Offers welcomed.
