The red, white, and blue ropey necklaces. Anyone know what they are?
They are phitens. And the ropey ones you are talking about are Phiten Tornados and they are about 50.00 a piece. They are suppose to help you with something but most of the players are just sponsored by them.

Supposedly some of them have magnets that give your body balance and use your body's electrical impulses to create additional energy. I dont know if they work but stuff like that is 99% placebo.

It's just one more thing MLB is trying to sell you. Apparently, they feel you haven't given them enough of your hard earned.

I swear Bud Selig would sell tickets to his mother having sex if he could.

I am convinced his screen must shrink his signature. I have seen around 75 people ask him to shrink it and he just goes on his merry way clogging up every topic he posts in.

Which is funny as my 1 card sig was determined to be too large and I was ORDERED to shrink it or it would be removed.

Supposedly they relieve pain and give you extra energy. Reviews on Amazon are pretty good as the placebo effect is quite substantial. Unfortunately, controlled trials with these things have shown that they have no additional effect beyond the placebo effect.

I'm still trying to find the study done at Hopkins that said these have zero physical benefit and compared the importance of them to the pet rock. Was a dynamite paper.

I wouldn't say they have no benefit at all. Placebo effect is still an effect. Pain, after all, is just perception. So, the reviewers on Amazon are not lying when they say they experience pain relief. We use the placebo effect at the hospital. Someone with "chronic pain" will get admitted and have intractable pain that they say requires narcotic medications. We tell them we'll order narcotics and we order 0.25 mg of dilauded (miniscule amount) and magically their pain gets all better. I'm not sure if it's ethical for doctors to use the placebo effect like this but it's nevertheless still significant.

What is the point of the video in your signature? I watched it and I don't get it.[/quote:co2wx1jv]

He was pretty much the most popular vendor at Pirates/Steeler/etc games in town, and passed away a few months ago. Probably a tribute.

Still a HUGE sig though!
