I feel dumber after reading this thread up to this point...does anyone have anything relevant to say?
As for the topic at hand, it seems normal to see a player put up bigger numbers in his first full season and then see his BA drop off a bit as pitchers figure him out. Once he adjusts, he'll be back over .300, probably next season. He seems like the kind of guy who you can almost expect 200 hits from, and simple math tells us that if that's true and he doesn't get hurt, there's no reason why he shouldn't be close to 3,000 hits for his career. I think 20 homers is more realistic than 30, but he's still just a kid and has some filling out left to do, so don't be surprised to see his homerun total grow over the coming seasons. I'm glad the Cubs have him locked in for awhile, he's the kind of player who you can build a winning team around. I see him settling in as a .300, 18 HR, 30 SB kind of player, and with that kind of offense from a middle infielder, you're talking about a very special player who will probably be a perennial all star.
