I don't know if it would "liven" things up but I always thought it would be a cool project to create a picture database of every single card made. Beckett tried this at one point and I think they've since given up, but we have so many people on these boards who have some awesome and rare cards. Wouldn't it be cool to say that we had the most complete database of scans in the world? This type of project would include people from all across the collecting spectrum, not just prospectors or player collectors. Sure, it would involve some work from management in terms of getting the database set and securing some more storage space but I think it would be pretty cool to be able to view scans of some really rare cards without having to go through too much trouble searching for them.

That would be kinda neat to do. Hard part would be getting everyone motivated enough to do it.

Beckett would randomly give away prizes to people who uploaded scans. I'm sure you'd get a ton of people to upload their whole collections if it meant a shot at some wax.

Perhaps every month the site could have a theme that's also supported with articles. It could add content and some flavor to the site.

This may be out there, but what if we sponsored a UFC fighter for a televised fight every so often? Blowout does it once and a while. We could maybe get the guys to do public signings at the shop sometime before their fight.

Granted it may only interest a few members on the board, but it would get FCB's name out there on TV at least...

Despise the "sport" but not a bad idea.

Since people want things given away listen to this rambling.

Everyone that wants to be involved sends you a couple nice cards, or even a lot of them. They don't have to be that expensive could just be some oddball low numbered inserts you have of not so good players. On the other hand you can send a $50-$100 card whatever you want. I imagine some people would be more generous as there are always some. You take all of these cards, potentially worth quite a bit if enough people participate, put it on eBay as the FCB Collection. Obviously create a sticky for all of this so everyone is aware. Hype some of the nice cards in the lot, and really pump it up. But don't give everything away because let's face it, the mystery box could be anything. The hope is that many fcb'ers are bidding on it and hopefully one wins it and shares the entire lot to see what kind of weird random collection all of us could put together.

You take the money from the auction and make a poll of cards to buy from peoples suggestions. Maybe one iconic type card and a couple small ones, or maybe just 4 or 5 really nice cards. Get these cards from people's vote, all the people that sent you something. Then create a good creative contest giving away those cards to the people that participated. Best case scenario, someone wins something like an Pujols Chrome auto, and we get to see a random collection made by all of us. Worst case scenario complete fail from the start.
Don't ask me why, this just ran through my brain after reading the first couple responses. It will probably sound stupid tomorrow. Maybe someone can think of a better way to do something like this.

Honestly, considering this message board, I'm REALLY surprised that the Cards Infinity model hasn't been swiped yet.

While I could respect Chris wanting to leave that niche to C.I., if he doesn't do it, someone else would. A separate forum for those breaks could be created, and trades could be established, causing Chris to be a "clearing house" -- sort of like Check OUt My Cards -- and he could take a fee for doing so.

It's just an idea, but I think completely workable and has the potential of blowing CI out of the water, especially given the already established user base.

Ooooh. BAAAAAAD idea to reward post count. BAD idea. Quantity does not equal quality.

some sort of FCB card set based entirely on member input. voting on the checklist. voting on photos. voting on card design. discussions to hash out insert sets, etc. maybe even an insert set featuring actual members (who wouldnt want a magicpapa superfractor?)

everyone gets invested. months of discussions. everyone wants to buy something they were a part of. fcb branding. joint venture with leaf or something.

probably more expensive than giving away ferraris.

on second thought, how about doing this eTopps style?? keeps costs to a minimum. i dont know how to manage distribution, and i get that eTopps is based on the fact that you could redeem it for an actual card, but I'm sure there's some middle ground there.

just thinking out loud.

FCB Card Death Match 2011

64 members pick any card they want to enter (can be anything - worthless common on up). They must post a scan of the card. Then, in an NCAA bracket style, head to head matches are carried out with a 24 hour poll. The two competitors each can post a smack talk post of why their card would destroy the other card. The board votes on which card survives. The loser must post photos of him physically destroying his losing card. The winner advances to next round, but must use the same card in all rounds. Final survivor wins a prize.

Would be funny and creative.

This pretty much sums up most of the ideas so far.

Oh, and if I were in MMA, I don't think I'd want an explosion and the word "blowout" over my crotch while I competed.

Or we can just track down the guy with the Bryce Harper superfractor and let him have his MMA match with NecPilgrims. Could have a live feed of the match from Gilmos backyard in ATL :P
