When I got into the 1969 Mets via my Nolan Ryan obsession, I started a collection of every player from the team, as well as Gil Hodges. By the time I was 18 I had all Hodges' Topps cards from 1959 through 1972, but I always wanted to get my hands on a 1972 OPC. It's hard to find, and expensive when they turn up, since it was printed after his passing and mentions his death:

There's one on ebay for a reasonable price, but it's graded, and I don't really care for graded stuff at all.

You said don't mention the '52 Mantle but that card has been on my watch list forever. I will get one within the next 5 years. As far as a more realistic goal, I've watched probably 100 '68 Ryans (either Topps, OPC, Milton) over the years and have never pulled the trigger. I hope to get a decent one in the next year.

I tried to get my dad to buy me a Hank Aaron rookie at a card show when I was 11 or 12. It was a less than $100 card then but never have owned one.

Considering his RC is a SP in a tough set and he really only has 2 "real" cards, that is a reasonable choice from a financial standpoint.

I came close to pulling the trigger on a graded one a few months ago. Its definitely one of my most wanted cards.
