your the manager of an MLB team. you're the away team, score is tied 0-0, top 9, 2 outs, no one on. your pitcher comes up to bat.

do you let him hit, hoping he can get on and score? or do you go and try and win the game and pinch hit for him?

keep in mind that if he gets out, he has to still go out and continue his perfect game in the 9th, then hope they score in the 10th and then set them down again in order in the bottom half.

keep him in.
you have to consider that the other teams pitching has been great as well, and I dont the the average bench player would make that much of a difference.

You go for the win on the road and a tie at home. If it is 0-0, pinch hit for him. Likely hood of a position player getting on/hitting a HR are much greater than a pitcher. If your team is worth a crap, you more than likely have a good closer. Get the lead, bring in your closer, slam the door and go home.

Pinch hit. This is a team gave, and you go for the win. It's not about records.

IMO you also have a better chance at winning by going for the record.
who knows what the closer does, but the guy currently in is super hot. if his pitch count is under 108 I keep him in, as hes doing something right.

theres a lot of unknowns, like who can pinch hit and how good the closer is, but we do know that theres a guy whos super hot right now. maybe it rubs off and he gets a hit.

Why does everyone follow pitch counts so much? If a guy is doing well and has 130 pitches
in the 6th I would leave him in you look at fatigue and location of pitches not the pitch count
Signed ...Nolan Ryan :)

yeah, we really dont know the age of the pitcher in question but if its a guy who can handle a big load then Id send him out there no matter what.
