So,

GSP retained the title in a dominant win over Alves.

This makes me wonder what he will do next!

Does anyone see the possibility of him moving up to fight Silva a reality?

If he fights Silva it will have to be at a catch weight, probably 180. There really is nothing left for him at 170. That fight was so one sided it was boring. First we'll have to see how bad his groin injury is. Those can be pesky and keep people out for a while

as long as he wins, Maia will be next for Silva. i could have swore that they already annouced the winner of Maia/Marquardt was getting that title shot (Silva) and that Swick/Kampmann was getting GSP next. GSP might not fight for awhile though. on the NSAC suspensions that were handed out, he could be out until 2010 if he doesn't get medical clearance on that groin injury. i think that if GSP/Silva happens, it won't happen til the end of 2010.

I thought I read in and an interview that he wanted to stay at 170. I still think there are some interesting match ups for him. I'd like to see him fight Kampman and Condit and maybe the UFC could make a run at Shields. GSPs evolution into an elite wrestler has made him tough for pretty much anyone to match up against but I wouldn't mind him sticking around for a bit.

My only problem is outside of being something that fans really want to see a GSP vs. Silva fight really doesnt serve a purpose in furthering the rankings of the fighter. Regardless of what weight they fight at, I think Silva will have a large weight advantage. I sort of feel that BJ Penns "Legacy" has somewhat been tarnished by his 2 loses to GSP. He lost twice and is now back to cleaning out the 155 division. If GSP loses then what does he do?? Does he make a permanent transition to 185 or does he just go back to 170 and dominate again. If he wins then does he stay at 185 and Silva comes back down and try and take the belt back??

Believe me, I want this fight to happen as a fan and I think it will eventually will. I just won't be disappointed if it doesn't.
