My wife actually asks me when we're going to rip some more wax. The scary part is she's becoming snobby and wants to rip more high end items now that have more hits versus regular, Topps, etc. One of the reason's I ended up marrying her...

All it takes to make mine happy is anything blue, especially blue refractors.

Its not even that, Pred. Its unhealthy to spend 100% of your (free) time with your sig. or anyone for that matter.

Oh yeah. But I think it's also ok not to enjoy all her hobbies. We fish together and enjoy that a lot. And she loves to watch football and basketball and semi enjoys baseball. So we have our share of things to keep us involved.

Thats fine. You dont have to explain it to me lol I get it and agree

I think its unhealthy to jave a wife who XXXXXes at you and resents you for doing something that your passionate about, as well as doing every single thing with said person

I just write what I think. Plus...a lot of folks forget they are on a message board and don't like reading. In fact a lot of people post here and leave me wondering what they meant because they didn't explain themselves more.

I'd beg to differ on the super long paragraph as the ones above were short and filled with what I believe to be decent thoughts. But yes, I do write a lot sometimes. And I don't mind reading long posts either.

You're not alone, man. I've written 300-some-odd posts now and I'm sure only the posts that said "+1" and "word!" were actually ever read by anyone. My posts put the books of the bible to shame. But if you DO read them, they are at least thoughtful and totally relevant.

I can honestly say that my wife supports my hobby, since she is a collector of jadite and antique platter ware "Fireking" she tends to recon cards for me and will send me pics of what a vendor has and asks me to pick one or a few. She even buys a few packs for me sometimes, so my point is she has her thing, I have mine. But in the end, we support and have each others back with our hobby.

Looking for Alex Rodriguez Cards, PM me.

Actually you were who I was thinking of in my OP. I remember you mentioning more than once how your wife was out yard saling or something and found vintage cards for you. Great that you guys each have your own thing and are very supportive of each other's pursuits!

My wife collects Adam Ant memorabilia, so vintage cards look pretty good in comparision.

Hmmmm. For the most part she tolerates it. Although, since I have started doing case breaks and can actually make more money than I spend I think she is much happier, at least on the financial side. On the other hand, I put in quite a few extra hours of "work" now that I am doing the breaks. Some weeks I will work 60 hours in my full time job and then put in another 15-20 with breaking cases, sorting cards and shipping. I do try to do most of it very early in the morning so it doesn't take too much away from family time. I think IF I would give her back the dining room table she would be much happier.

When I was only collecting and spending quite a bit of $$ each month, well let's just say she was less supportive.

My significant other isn't really a fan of me collecting sports cards. She just doesn't "get it" so she finds it to be a waste of time and money. No matter how many times I explain it to her, answer her questions, or anything else she thinks it's a complete waste of money to buy a piece of cardboard. She won't outright force me to stop or tell me I'm not allowed to, but she'd rather I not spend money on the hobby. She's more happy with me spending money on video games or vinyl toys because she enjoys both of those things as well. So I guess in a way it's fine because I've found I enjoy those hobbies more than sports cards too.

I'm a 30 year old bachelor. The last woman I dated thought my hobby and collection was cool but she didn't like that on Thursday and Sunday nights I'd be checking eBay every few minutes for all the new listings (and possible great BIN opportunities). It also doesn't help that I collect Bonds and most people already have a negative view associated with him haha. I'll admit it pains me to spend $40 going on a dinner date when I know I could eat at home and spend the money on PC additions. If and when I do get in a serious relationship, she'll have to accept my hobby or it's a total deal breaker. It's part of who I am. Maybe once I get a few more of my wants scratched off my list, I'll start pursuing a relationship again ;)

Interesting, since new games dont hold their value at all... 60 bucks for a new game and within a year youd be lucky to get five bucks for it.

My wife doesn't mind the card collecting at all, she likes the fact our boys are involved in a hobby with Dad. She is a self proclaimed "Baseball Annie" and is very into going to games with us, and was going to MLB & MiLB games before we even met. She shocks some of the guys in her office when she references an up and coming baseball prospect she saw at spring training or a Marauders game....seems we are a perfect fit....

The perceived or realized value has nothing to do with it. Her perspective is that the video game will get me more enjoyment because I can play it over and over and get repeat enjoyment out of it. The card I purchase arrives in the mail, I look at it, and put it on my shelf with the rest of my cards and basically do nothing with it after that. So she doesn't see a point in wasting money on a piece of cardboard that's going to sit on a shelf collecting dust and would much rather I spend money on a video game I'm going to get continued and prolonged usage out of.

Spend all your money on video games, by all means! :)
