There is no chance at all, that I would pay that much for that card. My Griffey collection of this will just have to have a missing card.

Wow, that is frustrating and exactly what I was thinking with this thread. It is people like this who I feel like do not really want to sell their cards and it is more about them feeling power and I sometimes think maybe that is their PC and they are not really for sale unless someone wanted to throw stupid money at it.

For example, I could do that with my Belle collection... I could list all my rare cards and put a few grand price tag on each... I don't want to sell any but if someone is going to pay me $1k each for some of them, then they're SOLD.

Yea that seller's prices are crazy. I have been following this one he has had listed for about a year now, at least its not the $1,100.00 price tag he first had on it, but its still too high.

Yup, completely agree that his pricing is outrageous and he's never willing to negotiate either. Unfortunately he has many hard to come by cards and if you really want it you're either going to pay up or post in this thread how crazy he is.

Jeff has always seemed willing to work on prices. I think that he gets turned off by the approach that some, NOT ALL, people use.

I contacted him through eBay and offered him about 20% less than what the card was listed at. He actually knocked about 10% off, which surprised me. The card had been listed for quite a while though.

I agree. Jeff is easy to work with if you avoid starting a sale/trade conversation with him that bashes his asking prices (crazy, huh?); I've worked out multiple deals with him for Griffeys that rarely appear for sale.

I'm not saying he won't work with you, I've also bought from him. But when his asking price is 30-40% higher than the card should be, knocking off 10% isn't exactly seller of the year material.

Anyway, I must not be the only one that thinks this as I wasn't even the one to initially bring him up.

Yep but not at that price. Worked out a BO price for quite a bit less. Since I found a gold and had the red, I really wanted it. And had an unexpected eBay card from a birthday present so I figured what the heck.

Glad I found this thread to share my frustration. I have several that have been listed for years and the person won't budge. I collect 2004 Pristine and working a master set including printing plates. In addition working same serial # set so always looking for extras and I know the prices pretty well for most of the cards.

Howie Kendrick has come way down in price over the last few years despite being a solid player. This seller has had this one listed for years. Several others form the set are more than double price but his Kendrick is about $275 over priced. The last couple I have picked up of his #/41 have been under $20. The regular refractor #/49 I picked up a couple years ago BGS 9.5 for $13! Am I the crazy one?:

He had a Bagwell Patch PLace refractor #/10 listed for well over $100 for a while and I remember offering him a reasonable price and he refused. Hasn't been listed in a couple years but no way he got more than $100 for it...


These cards aren't frustrating because I already have a few in 9.5 but I find it laughable on the price. This guy has had them listed so long that he still has the original description with the 2012 stats. He thinks Carlos Quentin is the second coming. Even in 2012 I wouldn't pay more than $10 for a 9.5 in any of his 04 Pristine cards and he had them all listed at $99 for a long time. Luckily they are all on sale right now:

I didn't list them all but the ungraded refractors cost more to ship then what they are worth. Again-20% off right now and still about $39.50 over priced for a .50 card.

I am pretty sure I purchased one for under $20 and the other for under $30. I picked up a Jennie Finch and Alex Rodriguez in the gold refractor both under that price in the last 6 years. Willie Mays was just over $200 which leads me to this:

Hmmm-a regular version graded an 8 for more than a raw gold refractor #/25? I picked up 3 raw for under $150 over the years all were auction form. Granted things have changed but still crazy prices for cards-about double what they should be going for except the 9.5. That is a beauty and somewhat realistic. Really about $250 should be the going rate on it.

I know the card was graded by some guy at some service as a 10, but this is still a sterling example of something that will never sell...even during this guy's legendary **5% off** sales. Add to it the gall of a $10 shipping charge on top of it all, and well, no thanks. On rare occasion - after a few too many beers - I have actually been tempted to buy one of his mid-level offerings at the inflated price, just to fill a hole in my collection. But even with a buzzcap on, I just couldn't buy from a guy who does business this way. And I never will.

But in my limited experience most of these holy grail cards DO appear on actual auctions from time to time. I have vastly less data than many FCB members, but I still see stuff like this offered by legit sellers, and they often sell for 5x to 10x less than what hostage holders are asking.

This seems pointless to me. Why even list it if you're leaving in a different universe?

It is clear to me that some guys post cards on eBay with no intention to sell and probably get more of a power trip off seeing people view the item or even watch it... even more of a trip when they get countless PMs about doing a deal offline or taking a lower price, etc.

Then again, and no offense to my fellow Belle collector on here but even after ~10 years of that Belle card being posted, someone ponied up paid the ransom with the help of gift cards and eBay bucks as play money... good for both parties but I hate seeing sellers like that get paid.

He's had that Dawson black 1/1 listed for $300 or more for YEARS...and I genuinely hope he never sells it.

Or any of his other cards for that matter.
