So I just got back into sports card with topps series 1 this year. Then I relaised I know far more football players then I did baseball players lol. While I wait for the season to begin I have been looking at some sets form last year. I bought a topps platinum pack and I think the cards look great. The normal topps chrome also look pretty cool. But with seeing that topps will no longer do football and that panini will I have thought about maybe getting some of their cards. So off this what would yall say is a good box to start off with? Or should I just wait for Panin's box coming out in may which to my joy will have Bradford in it. I also like former OU players and the bears in case that affects like what could come as hits form packs.

The first stuff that comes out is usually lower end stuff, has players in college uni's and doesn't have a lot of long term value......but judging by your initial post it seems you may be looking for a fun break and actually wouldn't mind the college aspect....so of the earliest releases I'd actually recommend Press Pass.

You get 5 autographs per box. All the autographs are on card and IMO always are really sharp looking.
Makes for a fun break and will get a bunch of OU base cards and a decent shot at an auto.

If looking for 2009 - Sp Authentic and Playoff Contenders are always biggies.
Absolute was really good last year. Threads and base UD are good for the price.

My overall suggestion would be to check the box break area (even the older ones to see last years products). Most of the breaks on here have scans, so I always recommend taking a look at those and go with whatever you find aesthetically pleasing. If you like the look of what the "main" hits are, then you usually end up more or less pleased no matter who you get.

It seems the press pass draft boxes will be hard to come by. Do you have any recommendations on where to find one other then ebay? Also after looking at the 4 measly topps platinum cards I have I really like the chrome. Is there one chrome set that really stands out form 09?

Also press pass has a second box coming out right after the draft and am wondering if I get one of the two press pass if I should just get that.

You can get 2009 Topps Chrome for like $60.
I think it's just the one auto, but you'll get a bunch of rookie cards and some refractors. Or else the Platinum which you've already tried.

The Press Pass coming out is a new product - so not sure how it will be received. Personally I'd rather have the action shots on the base than the close-ups. Saw there's 7 auto's though per box. So I'd imagine that could be a fun break too....it's nice to get that many rookie auto's, even if they may not be worth as much as the releases that come out later.

Best place to get boxes is blowout - dacardworld.com - atlanta sports cards ? (not sure the site but I think it's on the front page somewhere). You can pm me if you want, because, I'm not sure if it's still valid, but I had a code for $25 off a first order at collectandsave.com - I didn't use it because I had ordered from them previously, I can try to find that when I have the chance.

I have seen retail topps chrome for less than 40 a box, that is a great deal. The parallels are much better in
retail and I have pulled some super sick auto cards from retail.....much better than hobby.

So get the box or buy the packs? The only chrome boxes I have seen have been hobby.

I have busted a lot of boxes this year, and one of my favorites to open was bowman chrome. If you're wanting to go a bit more high end I'd say Donruss Limited is the way to go if you dont like to open a ton of packs that is.

Nah I like opening packs but I also like the high end. Which is why I was looking at chrome and platinum.

And in regards to a Bradford auto should I just expect it to be in pretty much each Football set this year?

Yep.

Platinum is garbage imo. You'd be better off going with SPA or Limited imo.

What is the Limited you refer too the only one I saw was a Donruss limited with just a single 5 card pack. And what makes SPA better then Platinum bad?

You will have to score retail boxes on the net. My dealers has them but he does a lot of trading of boxes. There
also seems to be a bunch of people on here putting together Xfractor and blue sets. I pulled a black refractor auto
of Knowshon out of retail packs..good stuff

Busting wax is fun but if you just want a Bradford auto, buy a Bradford auto.

Well I would like a nice set of cards it's just if later releases will be nicer rather get those then try for a earlier set such as press pass.
