I'm curious to see what the knowledgable basketball folks think about last years National Treasures Auto Patches /99. I don't keep track of these things too often but when I do, it seems as though the prices keep going up and up with every closing auction.

In my opinion these are at least on par with exquisites from years past. I love the design of the cards and I feel that overall the patches are bigger and better than what Upper Deck produced in the past. People overlooked these when they first were released and the people that bought in early are going to see a tremendous profit. I could see the top guys getting over 1,000 during the season and maybe some
of the 2nd tier guys take a jump as well. I will be honest, I never collected basketball cards before this year but the sheer beauty of these cards change my mind. Panini did a great job .

i think a factor is how long Panini will be the only game in town.

Now that Topps and UD are NBA done, will Panini be able to be the best?

I have to be honest I think they are a lot nicer than any Exquisite rookie cards. That being said, the very first Exqusite was a huge change in the hobby and is probably the greatest rookie cards ever made.
The problem with the NT rookies is the fact that they are made by Panini. I'm not sure the hobby is completely sold on the company yet. Also Exquisite has a LOT of collectors and followers. Many with very deep pockets. For the NT Rookies to catch Exquisite some of those Exquisite collectors will need to convert to NT.
It may take a year for collectors to realize how amazing these cards are and how short the production is on them. It will only help when the stuff dries up. If you all remember when 03/04 Exquisite came out it did not initially take off. Many people were affraid of the high price tag. It took about 8-10 months for the rookies to take off (and take off they did!).
So basically only time will tell. NT is this years Exquisite and is by far the best rookie cards to be had. The rookie class will need to play well to fuel interest in the set and then, we will see what happens. I could see the Evans & Curry doing $1000-$1500 in the not too distant future.

I hope they do reach Exquisite levels, it will be good for the hobby and the value of my T-Will collection. ;)

This sums up my take. It would also help the NT brand if the premium veteran auto memorabilia cards were as nice as Exquisite, i.e. design, all on card, all nice swatches/patches, etc.
