What is the meaning of the "U" in front of numbers on cards? Please Help!

So I am sorting out cards and I keep coming across like a number "123" and then I find a "U-123" so my question is, what does the "U" mean?

Yeah, traded players are usually included in the Topps Update sets. Before that, I believe Topps used TR-*** for their traded sets

Update sets are issued separately, usually at the end of the season, and include that season's rookies and traded players. Some update sets include cards for that season's award winners, all stars and special moments.
