Hi all. I was thinking about this and my question is this. What is everyones favorite top 3 favorite sets of all time? I just love the brown speckle border on the 68's plus it also has one of my favorite players (Nolan Ryan). The 87 set is great because i love the wood grain look and also it was the first set i put together when i was a kid. The 59 i just like the design of the card. My favorite top 3 are as follows.
1. 1968 Topps bb
2. 1987 Topps bb
3. 1959 Topps bb
What does everyone else prefer and what's the story behind it?

1) 75 Topps - no doubt about it. Loads of HOF rookies. Vibrant. extremely condition sensitive. I don't think there is a second place but if I have to
2) 75 Topps mini
3) 75 OPC

'57 Topps - last year the Dodgers were in Brooklyn. Loaded with HOFers. Some really cool background scenery (stadiums that no longer exist, for instance).
'78 Topps - first set I collected as a kid. So many things I love about that set: game on the back, red white & blue all-star shields, cursive font team names
T206 - what's not to love about 100-year-old cardboard with hand-drawn/colored players? So many different ways to collect this set. Plus, it's the original "rainbow" set with loads of back variations.

T206 (currently at 513 of 524, 97.9%)

1973 Topps Baseball (a nice variation on the 1963 set, as well as 1983 in some regards)

1948 Bowman Football (old school, odd size, black and white)

1984 Donruss, but a handful of vintage sets are pretty close like 1954 Topps.

I think I've changed my top favorites a few times but number one is always the same!

1. 1991 topps. I loved this set as a kid and the photography is great! Plus all of the cards look like they are just waiting to be autographed ip so I really focus on getting cards from this set signed if a player I'm going to get has a card in this set.

2. 1987 topps. I remember one of the few times my mom and dad took me to a card shop when I was young and my mom got me a Will Clark rookie from this set. I was in hog heaven! I love the wood grain look!

3. 1958 topps. I always loved the Hank Aaron from this set and I actually own a pretty sharp one. I don't know why but I've always loved the way it looked. So any chance I get, I usually pick up cards from it.

Honorable mentions: 1991 Upper Deck(nice clean design), 1991 Studio( cool and unique design), 1991 Stadium Club( new and really cool at the time).

1. 1910 T210 Old Mill.

Bold red borders contrasted by b&w photos makes for a very eye catching design, minor league cards of Joe Jackson and Casey Stengel, and varying levels of scarcity depending on series.

2. 1956 Topps.

Great design and loaded with stars and HOF'ers.

3. 1958 Hires Root Beer.

I'll always remember visiting my Grandparents' house as a kid. The Sox were on tv, and a cold, fresh can of Hires was waiting for me.

I don't really collect football cards but when I was growing up my two fav sets were.
1. 1986 Topps fb
2. 1987 Topps fb
The 87 was also the first year I put a football set together. The 86 for some reason is as great design. I love the green border with the yellow stripes.

2000 Fleer Greats of the Game Autograph Set
1957 Topps
2001 Leaf Certified Fabric of the Game

Very surprised to hear how much people like 1987 Topps. It is probably my LEAST favorite set. Oh well.
