I saw this on another board and I thought it would be kinda cool to see what everyone feels is their best piece that they have stashed away in their collections. I apologize if this has been done before but what the heck......why not do it again.

My favorite piece is one I picked up when I worked for the Chicago Cubs. When I say picked up I should say I dug out of the dumpster as they were cleaning out many old files. This is a team roster sheet that each player had to sign in spring training to verify that they had received their meal money for the week. This came from the files of former Traveling Secretary Bob Lewis. The signatures are much bolder than the scan suggests.

I have this narrowed down to the Spring of 1954 which would be Ernie Banks' first full season in the majors and possibly his first Spring training with the team.

That's a great piece. I have been collecting some 50's Cubs recently so its cool to see a piece like this. Hard to believe it was almost lost and you saved it from a dumpster.

Truth be told there was literally about 15 of these in the dumpster and they were stapled together. I took about five and the guy I was working with took the rest. Over the years I sold off a few but kept this one as it had the most signatures on it. I just wish I would have kept everything that was in that dumpster that day as I remember other pretty cool things that were in there but at the time I didnt think anything of them.

Excellent Cuddyer piece. I saw him play a few times in the Midwest League and thought he would turn out to be a decent ball player. He has not disapointed.

Nice!

I'll go with this.

There once was an indy ball team in the town I go to school in (not far from where I live). The team only existed for a season, and the league for about 2 seasons. I've found very little information on the team/league. Basically just rosters and who won the championships those two seasons.

One day I was checking out the thrift store and saw this baseball tossed in the display case. I've never seen another like it. Glad I spent that whopping $1 to get it.

Everyone has that one piece they feel just makes their collection. No matter if it is a beat up card you carried in your wallet because your dad gave it to you or a game used item you got from a favorite player. In this thread it just doesnt matter. Post that one item that you feel is your centerpiece.

Ellis Burks GU bat from 2004. He only played in 11 games (33 at bats) with the Red Sox in '04, so there aren't many of these out there:

This was passed down to me from my dad. He picked it up from the reds gift shop shortly after the series. He put it away then when I was a teenager in the late 90s I was able to convince him into getting it signed. He gave it to me in my mid 20s so I could finish the project. As it sits now its just missing 2 guys. Rose an Bench. I had a chance to get Bench in April but couldn't make it to Cincy.
