From looking at the numbers, I would guess that average and strikeout numbers (6.5:1 k/bb) say power hitter, but only has 5 HR and 17 RBI.

personally, i think his card prices were inflated from the get go. he is 24 years old, not old at all but the clock is ticking. also, his k:bb ratio is horrendous and he doesn't have the power i'd like to see out of a 6'3" 220 lb corner if/of. for comparison sake, i'd say he has the upside of mike lamb and robb quinlan

He has been injured this year. He was selling very well in Spring Training but lost out on the Astros 3B job to Geoff Blum and since going to AAA has had a bad year.. he is a good prospect but not an Elite one....no pun intended

I follow Astros prospects VERY closely and think he is going to be a bench player at best. His plate discipline is non-existent. He got Cecil Cooper excited because he has a big arm and big power potential but it's doubtful he will put it together anytime soon. He may get a shot next year, and could get off to a really hot start, but I doubt he sticks as a starter in the majors. Spring training was the time to sell when Cooper was hyping him up.

Bingo.

Hell, I will admit he had ME hyped up, but I think he has dropped down the Astros organizational rankings (which isn't saying too much).

Though, I do admit, I am looking forward to seeing how Jason Castro, Jordan Lyles and Ross Seaton do further up the Astros chain (like, I don't know, MLB level for Castro in September....please).

Not a prospect?

Uh, how is he not a prospect?

Uh, let's see.

He's a career .402 slugger, and he's a 3d baseman. He evidently can't take a walk.. 10 BB, 54 K this season. If he was an all-glove shortstop, that might be acceptable, but he's the opposite.

From a hobby perspective:

He's nearly 25 years old, and the Astros have a notoriously poor following in the prospect industry.

How does that not make him a "prospect"? I think your definition of prospect is skewed beyond recognition.

As it is, I purchased the elite redemption because I was (at the time) attempting the elite base set. I have given up, and am thus inquiring about Johnson as a potential investment. Obviously you guys do not favor him.

Perhaps, "weak prospect, poor investment" would be the correct terminology?

Weak prospect is also a disservice to him in my opinion. BA ranked him as the #5 prospect in the Astros system coming into this year (best power hitter in the system as well; although the Astros have probably the worst system out there, I still think its worth mentioning). Has he preformed well this year :?: No, he hasn't, but that doesn't mean hes automatically a terrible prospect. As someone else mentioned he has been injured this year. Although I would agree that he was not a viable investment at $20-30 per elite card before the season, I would disagree that he is a weak prospect or poor investment at his prices right now.

If you're looking to sell then LMK (I fully agree with these guy's, he's a bust, "has-been", poor prospect; & you should sell to me at the going rate right now)! ;) :D
