What kind of eBay bidder are you???

I tend to watch items and then when it is close to the end I will place my max bid and walk away. If I win, great. If someone outbids me, then so be it. I ahve lost a lot of cards that I really wanted, but also have won a bunch as well. I bid my max and if someone wants to pay more, then that is their prerogative.

Usually put down a min bid and then manual snipe as necessary. I'm considering changing my strategy to straight sniping seems to be the way of the future.

If there are no bids yet I enter my max and walk away. If there are bids, I wait until the end and enter my max. Reason being I have no idea what their max is and hopefully mine beats theirs and they won't have time to bid again.

I have three different strategies, depending on the situation


1. Cards I'd "be happy to get at a certain price: bid the going rate when I see the listing.
Example: Will put $14-15 bids on any Jagielo or Judge Bowman autos I see. If I get it there, I'm satisfied, but my stash of each is already sizable enough that I'm not heartbroken if I lose.

2. Cards I NEED: last 3-4 second BIG snipe and likely using a snipe service in addition in case I fall asleep at the wheel or there's an internet burp
Example: Superfractor of one of my guys, other low serial #

3. Cards I want but know will likely see the light of day again: snipe at 5 sec for going rate + 5%
Example: Gold /50 of recent release

I always snipe. The only time I place a bid early on an auction is to get rid of the BIN option if I think there's a chance it could get hit and if I think I can get it cheaper. Even when I do that I only place the minimum bid and then I'll place a snipe on it.

I just got into sniping. It's certainly good if you know the maximum price your willing to pay. Having a max price is good anyway. That way you won't brae your budget.

What I really don't understand are the small incremental bids. This just seems like a stupid wasteful bidding strategy.

Please help me understand any logic to this.

I bid exactly what I am willing to pay, including shipping costs, 90% of the time. The other 10% are more expensive items that I set a snipe on to try and get a better deal.

If I see an incremental bid like that, I'll drive up the price to the maximum bidding in one-step increments with no intention of winning. Each bid you can see what the seller is willing to pay. It's a terrible bidding strategy. Last week I drove up a $10 card to over $40 on someone doing this. Hey, if they want to bid like that on the guy I collect, I'll make them pay so they have less to bid against me in the future.

yes, that's a chance if you place repeated bids feeling your way to being the highest bidder, but I'm sure he'd stop at a point he feels is the most he's willing to pay rather than overspend trying to be the highest bidder and be on the hook later if there are no other bidders by the end of the auction.

Sorry, I was talking about what gracecollector does, bumping up others bids without wanting to actually win the item at what he bid at.

I watch an item and wait to see where its at 5 minutes to the auction end. I dont like to bid my max right out of the gate because of the chance that other bidders may drive up my bid.

If I see a card listed real cheap, I'll go ahead and bid just in case I forget about it later. Sometimes Ive been outbid on a card and didnt remember it was ending, and times I have won and totally forgot that I had bid.

And some cards I'll throw a bid in just so the seller cant end it early.

I have never used Gixen before, but after several endorsements here, I think I am going to have to give it a shot. Thanks for the info.

You will not be disappointed. I went the longest time refusing to look into this sniping business until my brother explained Gixen and the process to me. You're wasting your money bidding up an auction early and, if you wait until the final seconds to bid, risk losing the card (as sadly happened to me a couple of times) if your bid doesn't go through due to technical difficulties.

Gixen is like the Ronco Showtime Rotisserie... "Set it, and forget it!"

If you look at the bid history though you can see he still has 5 bid thresholds to cover before becoming high bid. He still had planty of room to still drive the price up since the incremental bid was still higher than his highest bid by five different bids. When I see bidding like this it screams shill bid (from the 0***2 acct).
