Ok, Mattingly would break my heart... not going to happen and I believe there is ZERO suspicion. Imagine Mattingly had he taken them? Pretty much the same exact build his entire career.

Today? Uggla. Mostly because I asked him if he'd ever taken any peds in 2005. "Nope. All natural hard work."
I'm taking his word. He needs to get that BA up though. :D

Um.. why the hell would you ask a player if they took PED's?

If I was Uggla, I would've chewed you out. That's just rude.

Umm...Who the hell are you to question what I ask someone?
It's not like I just came out of the blue with the question to him...

You posted it on a public forum, Richard. It's not like I need permission to ask you about something.

The way you made it sound, which is your fault by the way, makes it seem like you went up and asked Dan Uggla if he used PED's. A.) That isn't any of your business and I'm not sure who YOU are to question somebody and B.) Even if he did, why the hell would he tell you?

I keep forgetting some Richard suckers need a whole damn story. The way I made it sound?

Oh wow, good one.

You really are a head case. You posted that you asked a player if he used PED's. How is that appropriate? How is that not rude? Then when somebody (on a public forum, mind you) calls you on it, you have a conniption.[/quote:31as8lhp]

You didn't call me on anything. You just acted like an idiot. You had the hissy fit.... You really didn't ask me anything, you acted like a 12 year olds mommy.[/quote:31as8lhp]

I acted like an idiot? You asked a player if he used PED's. Sounds like you are the idiot.[/quote:31as8lhp]

and you stare at people in wheelchairs.

None. I just can't muster up the ability to care about the goings on of somebody I have never and will never meet.

I tend to fall into this category, too. Sports athletes are not heroes or role models to me or my kids. I like to watch the best compete, and I root for the team, and I'm a fan of some players, but break my heart--I'm not that emotionally connected to that stuff. Plus, I agree that it's so prevalent (or was) that why would we be surprised at any name anymore--yes, even Griffey or Jeter.

Exactly. I've just never viewed sports as anything more than cheering for a group of guys wearing the same laundry. I'll cheer the hell outta them for the time they're on the field but just truly couldn't care less what goes on outside the lines.

Now, if my favourite author was caught plagiarizing, then I could see myself being quite upset.

It's kinda hard to determine the best when those considered the best are cheating. Using PEDS falls inside the lines. Which goes back to me asking players if they've ever used. None have ever had a negative reaction to the question, other than expressing their anger that everyone is suspect these days.... especially for those trying to make the show. I do care what happens outside the lines, because I want to root for the good guy.

Well, I guess I care to an extent. I'd never cheer for a guy who beats his wife or kills someone while DUI or the like. But that's about as far as it goes.

No one would break my heart. No more so than to find out if any player was wearing batting gloves, or taking batting practice. I have said this for as long as the PED discussion(s) have been around, almost EVERYONE was taking some form or another over the last 20 years. It was as common as, well, taking BP or wearing batting gloves.

No one cared, the trainers & players were recommending it. The managers and owners were turning a blind eye to it, if not outright expecting it, and the commishioner was loving the exposure the long ball was giving a dying sport.

I am so sick of this baby crap ""waa waa, my life is crushed", "Boo hoo, my heart is broken", blah... It's all nonsence to me. In the early days, natural talent defined the player. Then in the hayday, it was uppers, speed, greenies, ect.. Then it's PED's. For the last 50+ years players have eeked out every advantage they could, and it was always welcome by fans, players, managers, and owners. Anything to do better, and make more money, period.

So here we are, now all of a sudden PED's are taboo and the media makes it out as if you have to be furious because you were all cheated and every few weeks, they will piecemeal out another 'star' to capture your attention and dollar once again. You talk about the red sox cheating a WS ring. Well, you best believe the other team(s) were full of PED's as well. And when everyone is taking, it boils back down to talent.

So here we are, made to feel cheated and broken off information piece by piece in hopes it still remains 'big news' so money can still be made. Should anyone take PED's? I really dont know. Are they now as harmless as some say? Is it just about unfair performance gains? What I do know, and everyone should take this stance, is that it is MLB as a whole, from the top down, who is to blame and NOT the player just doing what he is being guided to do, so he may become and/or remain viable.

Stop the hate against the players! Stop the singling out of players! Start blaming thoes who provided a welcome avenue and rewarded it. Start blaming thoes who lined there pockets by never having to do it. Start to see that the players are just puppets in a bigger picture, with strings being pulled. It's the man behind the curtin who is to blame and he/they are hiding right infront of your faces.

Having said all that, if and when it becomes know that Griffey juiced, it would spoil my mood. He's the kid, the golden child, the all natural athlete with a winning swing and smile. Break my heart? No. But it would dampen my day. If anyone had the talent to excell without PED's, it was him.

Rickey Henderson, my favorite player of alltime.
Teammates always marvelled at the shape he was in, and Rickey would proudly say he built it out of hard work.

There is a part inside of me that Ripken and Nolan Ryan may have used them...Their accomplishments are ridiculous Ripken with the 2632 (whatever it is) and Ryan pitching effective at the age of 38-39

Might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure steroids aren't used for endurance purposes. In fact isn't one of the side effects weaker bones or something like that? Steroids would have been Cal's kryptonite I would think..
