Nobody said it but I believe

Hack Wilson's 191 RBI Season

The closest active player was Manny Ramirez with 165 in 1999

As mentioned before, Cy Young's 511 wins would be #1. The next closest is almost 100 away (Walter Johnson at 417). Maddux and Clemens are the only modern pitchers to get "close", if you think 156 and 157 wins to tie is "close". No pitcher will ever average 20 wins a year for 25 consecutive years (or 25 wins for 20 years) to get even within 11 of that record.

Heck, there may never be a 350 game winner again.

With more pitchers doing college, the 5 man rotation, the use of relievers and tighter pitch counts, 511 will never happen again. Not even close. Someone may win 300 maybe once every 15 years or so, but not much more.

Barry Bonds has several that won't be touched for a long while if ever. I won't even mention the HR records.
All from the 2004 season.
Bases on Balls -232 *
OBP - .604 *
OPS -1.421 *

Neat thread. Always great to refresh the baseball history.

Bonds' 73 home runs are unlikely to ever be topped, but in a way, I'm glad.

MLB should always have to remember that for more than 20 years, it willingly got into bed with steroids. You don't get to boost viewership, book the ticket revenue, then wash your hands of the whole episode.

The pitch is 100.9, not 101.9.

It's my understanding that several pitchers including Joel Zumaya, Randy Johnson, and Strasburg have all thrown pitches faster than this on record. I believe these three and one I've forgotten were the only players to hit 104 on a radar gun. The other guy may be Matt Anderson but I can't quite remember.

How is Ryan's pitch speed a record?

Troy Percival hit 104 as well.

While I think nearly any single season record is possible, that's about as close to an untouchable single season record as there can be.

The Riverlands.
I also think Tris Speaker's 480? outfield assists will never be broken as well. I know he has the most, but I think 480 or 449 is the accurate number.

Will White's 680 Innings Pitched or Charles Radbourn's 56 wins. If talking live ball era exclusively then I doubt anyone will break Mickey Lolich's 376 innings pitched.
edit: How about the Orioles having four 20 game winners in one year. That would be tough to break.

Most grand slams given up to the same player in the same inning: Chan Ho Park (2)

A pitcher will get 512 wins before a pitcher gives up three grand slams to the same player in the same inning.

After seeing Chan HR pitch for the Yankees, I wouldnt be surprised if he broke that record, pitching in a blowout.

The Braves came close in '93:

Maddux: 20
Glavine: 22
Smoltz: 15
Avery: 18

But to break it would require five 20 game winners which would will likely never happen.

I think any single season mark can be broken but the career stats get harder to break and since I'm a Ripken guy his 16+ seasons of playing everyday seems quite improbable.

I think hitting 5 HR in a game will never happen because pitchers in the Majors turn into butthurt ******* and end up throwing at guys that hit a few in a game.

Mike Cameron hit a fly ball to the warning track after already hitting 4 home runs in a game.

Lou Gehrig hit a ball to centerfield in Shibe Park (470 feet to dead center) in his final at bat of his four homer game that the centerfielder caught running back with his back to the infield. Writers at the time speculated that, had the centerfielder missed the ball, Gehrig would have gotten an inside the park home run.

Joe Adcock hit a double off the top of the wall in his four home run game.

I think someone is going to hit five one day.

As close to untouchable as there is.
Obviously you would need to throw 3 in a row.
Nope, never going to happen.

Cy Young's wins hands down. There is a realistic chance that those other records can be broken but Young's won't because no team will ever use a 4 man rotation anymore and even if they did, a pitcher would have average 20 wins a season for 26 seasons.

I think any pitching record where the record holder pitched before 1960 are just about untouchable. Nolan Ryan being the exception. His record will be damn hard to break. There's a possibility with every other record. It may be .000000000000001% but there is a possibility. The way the game is today it will be impossible for Cy Young's records to be broken.
