I'm not sure if I'm brilliant, or just pretty stupid.

I just picked up a lot of BC Auto's of former #2 pick, Rickie Weeks. Now I know all the reasons it was a stupid move, but here's my thoughts:

No one has questioned Weeks' talent, and everyone seems to agree there is star potential. Despite 4 disappointing seasons, there is a decent amount here to like. He's just 26, has always walked enough to have a solid OBP, and he has an uncanny knack for scoring runs. He has the speed and power to be 20/20 if not more, and already has 5 homers this year. Throw in the fact his BC Auto's are under $20 and I decided to take a stab at it.

Thoughts?

Hard to argue with the price you paid. I recently picked up an xfractor for around $20 because the price was so cheap. They used to go for over $100 just a few years ago, and certainly he has the potential to get those prices back up (at least some).

He's been looking pretty good so far this year. Part of his problem in previous years has been injuries. But when he's healthy and seeing the ball well, he can hit for power and has the speed to leg out infield hits, which is always a great combination.

Who was the IDIOT who sold them to you?! What a deal!!! :D

I had a helluva lot more than $130 in them, I shutter to think about the prices I paid back in 2006. The lot has been the bane of my prospecting existence, and I needed the money so I figured I'd pass the buck to someone who can more easily afford to sit on them. All he needs is a good month, heck, even a great 2 weeks (no pun intended), and you should make out pretty well.

By the way, went out today.

Thanks for the deal. I literally asked myself if I was nuts to be buying into Weeks again (I've bought and sold his cards a number of times.) I hope you are right (obviously) and appreciate the deal.

Any the idiot here is probably the buyer, not the seller. :)

So far so good on the season so far. He is currently tied for the Home Runs with 2 other Brewers.

His performance this year has been what made me make the purchase. The 5 home runs look very nice, and the .267 batting average is not awful. Hopefully he can finally break out and put up the numbers that were expected of him a long time ago. Either way he's still had more success than the #1 pick in that draft (Delmon Young.)

I say, if Rickie has a month that makes him a player-of-the-month or he gets a blurb on B2N/SC, heck an All-Star nod would do wonders; then you can sell those base for like $30 ea. (that doesn't sound too crazy) and maybe get $50 for the X. That's $260 right there, or a double profit...

After reading it, none of that sounds crazy...

I hope I'm right too. I've got a dust-covered Weeks collection that's 3 years old and older that I hope I can move (see travesty/old flame of a collection)

For the record, I paid about $30-$40 per on the base and I wanna say $90 on the X... and at the time, those were on the low-end. I decided to dump my money in Weeks instead of another guy who was selling for the same amount. I'll give you a hint - his name rhymes with Shmarkakis... ::facepalm::

As a guy who put a ton of cash (and I mean well over $1000) into a guy who rhymes with Hellmon Lung, I feel your pain. My guy does have the bragging rights that he was picked #1 in the same draft Weeks went #2.
