2002 Bowman Chrome Xfractor BGS 9.5 of Mauer in early 09. Flipped for nearly $400 more after his first hot month.

Along the same note, I bought 9 Base Mauer Chromes at about 45 each offseason 2008. Flipped 5 of them for 120-150+, and got close to 200 on 2. Still have two.

I also invested close to 1k in Jason Kubel, and despite having a great year (.300 BA, 28 HR, 103 RBI) the cards are stagnant

Two tins of 2005 Upper Deck Hall of Fame. Prior to those, the most expensive box/tin I opened was under $100.

Tin #1 was an amazing Ozzie Smith autographed patch card #/10.

Tin #2 turned out to be the Christy Mathewson 1/1 Cooperstown Cut autograph.

Not card related, but my first analog synthesizer purchase was an impulse buy, and I started collecting them shortly thereafter. Suffice to say, two years after I started collecting them for dirt cheap prices, analog synths blew up and I paid for my final three semesters at Iowa with the profits. Just insane.

Bought a 1999 UD SP Top Prospects Presidents Edition Serial #ed 7/10 Drew Henson minor league baseball card back when the product came out for $600. Sold a month later for $1050. The next week he quit football and signed with the Yankees. The bottom dropped out of the card at that point!

paid $1100 for this when news of Griffey returning to seattle...i knew it was high, as usually PSA 10 sell for $800ish, but figured i may not get another chance (only 30 psa 10s exist and this one is impossible to find centered that nice).

Put it up on ebay to show it off with a ridiculous $2200 OBO, and someone hit the BIN :D

Saw this at the last minute with no bids, and threw a last minute opening bid of $9.99 on each and won them both.

Ended up getting a replacement from Donruss for the both of them, and I was happy to take it off their hands...

Despite paying double-book unknowingly:

PC reason - it knocked one of the "unique" GU pieces from my list (shoe).
