1951 Topps all series.

My allowance at that time was $1.25 per week. That was a bunch of money at that time for a 13-year old and it paid for the Saturday movie, drinks, popcorn, and candy with money left over to save for cards. I had to ride my bicycle about 3 miles through Nescopeck and Berwick to get to the little Italian grocery store that really stocked a bunch of boxes of Topps.

I don't remember exactly how much a box was but it had to be less than $3.00.

I also sold cardboard from the local furniture store to supplement my income. I probably made at least $.50 weekly from that to throw in the pot.

I remember when I finished the set and my buddy still had about 5 cards to get. Boy was he jealous.

During high school my allowance increased and I had a paper route that netted about $10.00-12.00 weekly so I was rolling in money.

After finishing all the sets through 1956, I started college and my spare money was spent on books, etc. My college tuition per year was about $500.00 so there was no spare money for cards. :(
Wow amazing how things have changed.

Be honest about it Craig....You bought them for the gum. The cards were just extra.

1981 Topps/Donruss for me. I had a neighbor down the street thats uncle used to work/manufacture /or something like that the Donruss products. We had boxes and boxes of Donruss.

My first box ever opened was 1987 fleer basketball. I remember just looking for pistons and tossing the rest of the cards in a box, and never touching them again. Good thing I did. The pistons were warn out and the jordans I pulled were in great shape.

I opened 6 or 7 boxes of 2008 Topps Jumbo. Best hit was the auto version of this /25.

Went on to open 30-40 more boxes of various 06-08 products, losing my ass each time

Then I wised up, and started buying singles.

My little bros first pack was a 2006 bowman chrome and pulled a blue refractor of justin upton and his first box, also 2006 bowman chrome yielded a Longoria auto...He gets very lucky and way better pulls than I have ever received...

The first boxes/packs I bought were on my way to school in 1968...

We would stop in and pick up packs and if they had a box, we would have pack wars.. The packs were $0.10 each and you could get a Nolan Ryan, Mantle, etc.. and yes it was about the gum and how many pieces of that we could chew to make the biggest bubbles..

I had the cards up in the attic and of course when I moved out.. My mom threw all my cards out.. (yes she now knows the value of thoise cards and appologizes all the time.. I tell her not an issue, I have gotten over it 25 years ago.. but you know how moms are)

2000 Pacific Revolution. I remember splitting the box with my brother; We paid $25 which was a lot for us since I was only 12 and him 10.

Well we went pack by pack and I got a couple inserts and this. Still have it, I remember being offered around $100 back then but since beckett had it listed as to scarce to price I didn't do it. Now it books $25 I think ::facepalm::

It was 2000 MLB showdown  . I really enjoyed the game and actually won a lot of free product and $ at the local hobby store in tournaments since we didn't really play with point cap rules so spending money gave me a big edge.

My first non showdown product that I can remember is 2002 Fleer GOTG and 2003 Fleer Splendid Splinters. Both entertaining and relatively cheap products for a 13-14 year old at the time
