i can not get over that with all the righteous smart people on our board that no one came up with the 1 item that HANDS DOWN would fetch more then any ruth, cobb, gehrig , any pre war or post war player item ever. It's been talked about many times, and no one knows what happened to it , the 1 item that i along with many collectors feel would be the most saught after and highest selling item that if it ever was found and came up for auction would be....

The ball that was hit and named " THE SHOT HEARD ROUND THE WORLD"

Oct. 1951 Polo Grounds. Bobby Thompsons' HR off of Ralph Branca. That ball would break any record for any memorabilia item. The highest selling peice of memorabilia so far has been Mac's 70th followed by the Wagner T206. But the Thompson/Branca ball would beat both of them.
I know the bat is in the HOF. Anyone know where the ball is?

no one knows. that is hands down the would be most expensive peice of baseball history.

All I'd want is Rafael Palmeiro's 3000 hit complete uniform including bat. Most items are in the HOF. He gave the jersey to his father.

I disagree with this. Although it is the most played play of all time I don't think it has the star power to be worth more than certain collectables that haven't been discovered. Can you imagine what would happen if a Babe Ruth Baltimore minor league jersey surfaced, or a signed T206 Wagner card? How about the first ball ever used in a game, Gehrig’s jersey from his first game or last? How about a Mantle signed jersey from his first game? What would a case of mint, unopened 1952 Topps wax high numbers sell for?

I don’t even think the called shot ball would have any chance of outselling the McGwire ball simply because times have changed. The called shot ball would sell high but not higher than a Babe Ruth jersey of significance…IMO.

Jackie Robinson's contract with Branch Rickey?

Can't believe I forgot this one. This would be absolutely huge outside of the baseball world as well.

Babe Ruth's first professional home run ball. The game was in Canada and the ball ended up in a river.

That was my thought as well. The ball was hit into Lake Ontario right off Hanlan's Point in downtown Toronto. The area is now a nude beach.
