I am doing a 24x36 inch painting for the ***** League Baseball Museum (NLBM) of the 20 ***** League players who played in a MLB ASG including Hall of Famers Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Satchel Paige, Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Larry Doby and Ernie Banks. The painting is going to be made into prints that are sold with proceeds benefitting both the NLBM and us.
With a print at 16x20 inches that is signed by the 7 still living members of this group including Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, and Ernie Banks, what is a cost you would be willing to pay?
All the people who will be signing it:
Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Ernie Banks, Monte Irvin, Minnie Minoso, George Altman and Don Newcombe

Really sweet item and congrats on the chance to paint for the NLBM that's really cool. Not sure on a price are you asking a price for the signed item, unsigned or both?

Thanks a lot! I was amazed when they said they liked my art and wanted me to do a painting for them! I am asking to see what you think would be a fair price point for a 16x20 inch print that is signed by the aforementioned HOFers and then the other 3 living members of the group.

Mays and Aaron are both really expensive signatures, and Banks is not cheap either so $500 does not sound crazy to me. Any idea how many they are planning on having signed?

No clue yet, we are still working it out. That is what I was thinking, those three are all expensive signatures. I think that the print run of the prints is going to be very important, but I think it is going to be a MAX of 500.

I do think it will be interesting to see what sort of market there is on an item like this. Obviously there are some huge names mentioned, but the group of 7 may not be all that interesting to people who are not ***** League or general baseball history fans. I don't know who all the other players are (is Newcombe one?) but this is especially true if a couple of the guys are pretty obscure. A large run might be overly ambitious even if it is a really nice item simply because of the fact that unfortunately so few really know much about the ***** Leagues anymore, but it's a great piece and a worthy project.

I think that it might be able to sell quite well during the ASG Fan-Fest since there are a lot of dedicated fans that do go. I would have to agree with you there, but I think the fact that Mays and Aaron are on there will change a lot of views. Have talked to a few casual fans who would love to have a piece like this on their walls because of the baseball history and Mays & Aaron have signed it. Here are a list of those that will sign it:
Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Ernie Banks, Minnie Minoso, George Altman and Don Newcombe

I hope it would do incredibly well because the ***** Leagues are such an important part of baseball history and really the history of our country as a whole. Really a shame that for most sports fans it is not all that well known. Plus I remember seeing posted on this site that Mays generally does not sign ***** League items, so that alone might offer added appeal since it's so unusual. (I'm still pulling for a ***** League baseball card set. I don't know what Brian Gray thinks of the idea (or if he's already worked on it) but between the connections you are making at the NLBM and the fact you can get in touch with Brian, maybe that's something you could end up working on either in connection with Leaf, or possibly some other way.

edit: It has to be great for a guy like Altman who probably does not get much recognition for being a ballplayer these days, gets a chance to sign (and I assume make some money) while being there will players like Mays and Aaron who left such a mark on the game.

Yes, I definitely agree! It is a shame it has been forgotten by quite a few people! That would be a great card set to do! Yeah, the NLBM is going to work out all the signing for the prints but it will be great for guys like Altman! I can't wait to see the finished product once it is signed by all of them! Going to be a great piece that brings in a lot of money!

Whether you paint them in their ***** League uniforms or MLB uniforms will make a difference in the type of collector who would be interested in purchasing it. Based on the comments above about Mays not signing ***** League items, if he agreed to do this for the NLBM it would become an "exclusive" of sorts and I think more people would be interested based on the historical significance. Anyone who saw it would instantly recognize why it's important, which is important when you want to sell an item to fans who might not be very knowledgeable about ***** League baseball and would only be familiar with the major stars.

Bob and I both liked the look of major league uniforms on the HOFers and then a mixture between the other 12, it just seemed to blend better overall.

How did I forget? It will also be signed by Monte Irvin, so that is actually 8 players instead of the 7...if I did my math correctly.
