Why not sell all but one and use the funds towards other cards you like? It sounds like graded is not a real priority for you and the other copies are pretty nice, so I don't know why you are limiting yourself to these two options...

Or along these lines find a BGS 9 with all 9 or better subs. It would be a nice example , saves $ over the 9.5 and you can use the savings towards something else

I can see from my post where you would think I am limiting myself to these two options. But I'm open to all idea's, I just limited it in my post for the sake of discussion and because after evaluating all my options these were the two that were the most appealing to me. I was curious as to what other people thought and I appreciate the group sharing their views. After thinking about it I'm pretty sure I'm going to go the BGS 9.5 route. The main reason is out of all the stuff I collect Griffey has been the main theme for a long time and this IS his iconic card. For other stuff I am very happy saving money and having an 8 but for this one card I think I will grab the 9.5 just for the sake of having one really nice copy. In all honesty I'm going to keep 3 or 4 other copies and sell the rest so it's not like I'm just going to have one I just think it's a better use of the funds I have tied up in those cards

Honestly, this is the most rational thing to do. I saw a BGS 9 that to me looked just as good as any 9.5, at about a third of the cost. It had all 9.5's with an 8 for surface, maybe due to the hologram on the back? I don't know maybe it had a dimple or something couldn't tell from the scan. But as we all know this hobby isn't about being rational, it's kind of crazy and in this instance I think I want a 9.5 copy just because I haven't really gone that route before and I want to try it out and see how I like it.

I think I've been letting the kid in me collect like a did when I was a kid, and that was really fun and actually was the point for the first few years of getting back in the hobby. It was the best feeling to get pretty much every card I wanted as 12 yr old. Back then it was about getting the cards, but now that I have them plus a bunch of other stuff I'm starting to feel like I have too many cards. Hence I was looking around thinking about how to make my collection better, how to slim down my collection and this was just one of my many idea's. I really think I wan't more higher dollar cards and less $20 to $30 cards. I don't really enjoy 10 $20 cards sitting in a box as much as one $200 card that I look at more. However when buying cards it is much easier for me to pick up 10 $20 dollar cards as I don't have to think about a $20 purchase I just do it, but $200 is a little different. I know it's silly that I wouldn't think about 10 $20 purhases as much as 1 $200 but it's just how it happened, I'm not saying it was right. I guess it's good for every collection to go through a spring or in this case winter cleaning every once in awhile. It might take awhile but I've been sorting out the stuff to sell as I get time. I'm just taking it slow since I need to enjoy this process too. I think I'll really ramp up the selling during spring training but that will give me plenty of time to decide in what direction I want to go.

Wow this ended up really long thanks for reading and thanks for sharing all of your views, I actually found the discussion quite helpful and informative.

I went through a very similar question about two years ago. I was a big Vlad collector in the late 90s-early 2000s, but was also putting myself through school, paying rent, yada yada yada yada boring not having enough money to buy all the cards I wanted.

Then I graduated, got the job, got the place, and had the money to buy 9.5s of a bunch of Vlad cards. I no longer have any of them but I do have a stack of 1995 Bowman's Best Vlads, including a BGS 9, a BCCG 10 and a bunch of raw.

Good luck with whatever choice you make. Collecting is fun--when you start trying to make it 'better' you can stop enjoying it.
