We all know about the fleer forgeries, but now they doing the Donruss. example: 2001 Donruss Classics Significant Signatures Legend SP Willie Mays Auto | eBay

The seller states, "Card is also a rare factory error and does not have the embossed stamp." It's not a factory error. These cards were sold unsigned by ebay seller knighttime55.

Here is a legit Willie Mays auto with the embossed stamp. 2001 Donruss Classics Significant Signatures Willie Mays 164 Autograph Card Auto | eBay

The Mays in the first one is a dead giveaway.

Someone already got burned on this one and you can see how this forgery looks like the first forgery.

Nothing new, those 2 styles keep popping up time and time again. Lots of fakes of those are out there. Another bad one is 2001 Notable Nicknames.

There was a huge lot of "certified" unsigned cards Mays items that sold from one of the big auction houses a while back (couple of years back IIRC). I believe those cards are the cards we are seeing with fake sigs.

Yes, that would be from the Robert Edward Auctions (Sy Berger collection). They contacted me roughly 6 months prior to the auction asking if those cards were legit. I knew once they hit the secondary market, a lot of forgeries would pop up.

Here are a few of the forgeries that popped up.

Here is a fake Hank Aaron. I also have seen a fake Ozzie Smith and a fake Albert Pujols, among others.

This is why I stopped collecting and focused on unreleased stuff. Not much integrity in the hobby anymore.

Some of those unsigned ones have become after market autos, so may be legit, but not pack pulled. I saw a Clark once that was very iffy, but I think it was an after market, rather than outright forgery. Still shady if you ask me.

Those Willie Mays are forgeries. Bad ones at that. I know that seller with the Donruss signature knows it fake since he bought it without a signature. Then had the nerve to say it was a factory error.

This was the auction that opened the floodgates to the possibility of Mays forgeries.

Unissued Willie Mays Prototype Card Collection Including Twenty Signed Examples (277 cards)

After years of trying to find a legit pack-issued Mays 2001 Fleer Tradition "Stitches In Time" Auto, I'm convinced the card was never signed, although Beckett has said differently directly to me in correspondence. Mays is known not to sign ***** League items as well, so even the aftermarket ones are all fake as far as I'm concerned. I had to settle for the unsigned/unreleased version.

Mays never signed those cards. After talking to Beckett multiple times, I was told it was a redemption card and not the actual signed card.
