We all know the most expensive is the SP but it is not his rarest.

What do you guys think is the rarest? For sake of this post, do not include any minor league cards, buy back autos or inserts (including Rockies or Marlins) or paralells.

My vote is a toss up between Score (Yes said Score) and Stadium Club.

As a dealer, the Score is the one that people always say "I dont have that one" to me.
I believe the reason for that is because for the last 10 or more years, there has been no reason for anyone to break boxes of the product (no valuable cards). I might be wrong but I dont think there were factory sets made either.

Stadium Club Dome was a factory only set which didnt sell too well and comntained no inserts which at that time were kings.

Topps, UD, Select are all over the place with Pinnacle and Bowman a lot harder to find.

The Score is pretty common around the tri-state area (I live in CT about 45 minutes from NYC); there were a ton of them produced (my old friend's father owned the company and I'm positive that the print run was insanely high like most of the early 90's cards), I just think many of them are tossed in drawers or attics of non-collectors at this point.

As for the Stadium Club, the 93 Jeter card is a Stadium Club Murphy (Jack Murphy Stadium). The 92 Stadium Club was the Dome set.

My favorite, aside from the SP, was always the Select. The picture of him throwing in the sky in front of the clouds was always aesthetically pleasing. :D

Are you sure the sp is not his rarest? They probably produced fewer case of sp than of the other mainstream rookies, including score.

I agree, I've gotta believe that the reason the SP is the priciest is because it was the most scarce.

Of course, the sp. Also by far the most condition sensitive.

It's a shame that 1993 Finest didn't have Jeter (I've seen the 2001 Finest Origins, oh what could have been...)

Between completed and current auctions:

175 SP
160 UD
320 Topps (not including large lots of the card)
60 Select
11 Stadium
60 Pinnacle
60 Bowman
55 score

Maybe it my location but the Score is, by far, much much harder than SP to find at shows around here and at other shows Ive been to.

Im talking the largest shows in NY and EVERY NATIONAL Ive been to.

The 55 number for score is actually more than usual, pretty shocked to see it that high.

SP are a dime a dozen. It is the rarest in super high grade though.

The SP is not the rarest. The most expensive, yes, but not the rarest. I say it's the Stadium Club with Pinnacle in second, probably Bowman third.

I wouldn't go by those numbers right now. Everyone is listing Jeter stuff (myself included), and I listed 5 SP's because they can get me the most money. Interesting point though.

Your sample size probably represents less than 0.1% of the print run of all these cards.

sp may appear to be more plentiful because a ton of the product was cracked for grading, and it is the most desirable and easiest to sell.

Most people/dealers don't even bother searching through their 1993 score commons to find the jeter- it's just not worth the time and effort. Plus, a lot of them are still in the pallets and pallets of 1993 score that are forgotten in warehouses cause they are not worth the trouble to crack.

It's kind of like saying 1991 Donruss Elite jose cansecos are rarer than 2001 sp authentic tiger woods rookies. The prior is numbered to 10,000, and the latter to 900, but you see way more tigers than canseco on ebay at all times.

Thanked for awesome response and great example.

Score was a mass-market base brand, no way it was the rarest. Might not be prevalent on ebay, but sometimes "commons" are the toughest cards to find. Production of SP was rumored to be 6000-7000 cases, at least according to Collector's Sportslook. That'd make the print run of a particular card somewhere in the 60K range. The Murphy Stadium card is surely the rarest regular card of all. I seem to recall the print run for the 1991-92 Dome set being publicized at 12,000, and I don't think there were as many of the Murphy sets printed, but I could be wrong. Certainly not many more, though. As far as other 1993 cards, Topps Gold was 1-per-pack, or 3 or 5 per Jumbo, IIRC. Then there were the Marlins and Rockies factory sets. Of all variations of major brand cards, the UD Gold Hologram is probably the rarest. But none of these cards a "tuff" by today's standards, obviously, except maybe the gold holo.

For packed out rookie card I'll go with the SP. I suspect the Upper Deck Gold Hologram is his rarest card from that year. There was one gold set inserted in a 15 factory set case and I doubt there were many cases produced. The SP is probably the hardest card to find gem mint. It is also tough to find well centered Bowman cards. Pinnacle black borders that year also made tough gems. There were a shat load of base Topps and even Topps Gold but these are also tough to find well centered. Score and Select are relatively easy to find in top shape.

What could have been beautiful rare cards if produced:
1993 Finest/Refractor
1993 Select Chase Rookies
1993 Stadium First Day Issue

I've seen people claiming the Topps is a Short Print. :|

I think the Score RC is underappreciated. 1993 Score as a whole is. Also one of Score's cleanest designs as a set overall.
While not the most expensive, I think Jeter's Score RC is attractive... and not as common as you'd think.

I think the Topps RC is the best looking.

As far a rarity, I don't believe any of them to be actually rare.

SP will remain on top.

My Favorites:
Topps
Bowman
Score
Score Select.
