I was happy he was pitching against the Pirates tonight, thought he could do the Brewers a favor.

NOPE!

Is he hiding an injury? Is it mental?

He's my favorite non-Milwaukee pitcher aside from Greinke, so it pains me to see him struggle so.

You don't think getting signed to a big bucks contract + dating one of the world's top supermodels has anything to do with it?

Of course it shouldn't, but with the dramatic drop off in performance you have to wonder just how much it does.

I don't necessarily subscribe to this notion, but as soon as McIlroy broke up with Caroline Wozniacki.....

Actually, he is injured. He left the game in the second inning with a sore shoulder.
ESPN says he's getting it tested tomorrow.

Seems like a possible overuse injury from pitching so many innings over the years. He wasn't himself last season either.

The Royals must be jumping up and down right now. That rotation went from four studs to two in less than a week!

I understand , but there are people who don't fall off when they date popular people or sign big deals. So do for sure , but I would assume that he is a competitor and didn't just take his foot off the gas when he got paid. I think he needs to recover some from injuries more than anything

Baseball is a mind game. You're going to have trouble regardless of your talents and skill if your mind isn't in it. Not saying Verlander's isn't but who knows.

I apologize, reason I was stating the mind game is if he's dating hot supermodel and whatever outside things were being discussed, that could have some bearing on his performance and or impair his ability to work through an injury.

What's his fastball sitting at this year? I haven't followed him at all.

He's been low 90's all year. Down 1-2 from prior years. Most assumed his offseason surgery was slowing him down. Or it could just be the cumulative effect of the number of innings/pitches (see Sabathia, C.C.).

Perhaps there is nothing wrong with him. He had 2 dominant years, the rest of his career he has been a good pitcher.

It's been awhile since I've made a Rick Porcello post on FCB...thought I'd give it a rest for a few years especially when he started sucking....but now is as good a time as any to break the silence!

Just noting that Porcello has actually been the second best pitcher behind Scherzer all year. Here's to hoping Sanchez and Verlander are both good to go for the playoffs, but I would still take Scherzer/Price/Porcello over virtually any top three in baseball. You have two aces and a solid #2 type pitching in the #3 spot.

Verlander needs to pull a Rory McIlroy and dump Kate Upton...she is wearing him out. Focus Justin...focus.

He had a very similar off-year in 2008. Was something "wrong" with him then?

Maybe he's just bored with his job. Who knows.

Maybe we should post a bunch of Kate Upton pictures; just to be sure.
