What's your best card acquisition this year ?

For my personal collection, its a toss-up between these two:

Very tough card of a great player, but it was the last card I needed to complete the 2008 Heritage High Number Black Refractor Set. My first black ref set to completely finish, all 100 cards /59.

I still can't believe I have a Koufax auto. I would not have been able to afford it at auction, found a nice BIN listing on this one.

Then there's this old thing some dude gave me (I forget the details):

Now residing with many similar cards in an amazing collection.

2012 was a great year for me. I have added a lot of nice cards but I appreciate the ones I have more and more every day. I am thankful that I have cards in my PC that have been there since I started collecting again in 2002. And I hope if I ever do need to get rid of anything, it is because I chose to do so and it is a choice I am comfortable with.

I'd say either of these two, though leaning more towards the Young. I'm hoping my best new acquisition this year will be a new scanner that works well with graded cards!

Nice card...I understand why the Heritage Black Refractors sell so high, set collectors and all, but why is it that they seem to show up for sale way less than similarly rare cards? I hardly ever see any of them for the guys I collect at auction. Even when the sets first come out.

I've never picked one up, the price isn't worth it to me personally since it's like a choice between 6 Topps Blacks or 1 Heritage Black Refractor, and I like Topps Blacks.

This was both my biggest steal and best card of this year! Got it on a BIN which was at least 1/3 of what it would sell for on auction and it has an awesome story to go with it which is fun to tell!

This card was a very close 2nd because it both completed my run of 05 Ultimate auto's and I love the design of this set.

I have two cards to share also.

First is one I was able to trade for after looking for one off and on for over five years. This set is very tough to find anymore and I've always wanted to own a Starr from this set (he has two in the set.)

Second card was my purchase of the year. I bought the Jordan RC along with a Walter Payton RC at a show for $250 and sent them in to get graded. The Payton RC got a 7.5 but the Jordan was a surprise for me in getting an 8.0, so that was a good score for me.

This card I had never even seen, before discovering it's sale archived on Worthpoint. I was able to track down the buyer, and struck a deal to add the first new non-1/1 card to my collection in 2 1/2 years (excluding recent releases). Found a second copy a few months later, which was pretty crazy.
