A few GU threads lately got me thinking...

What's your first and your favorite game used item?

My first is a game used Gatorade cup. I don't have a pic, but it's quite different.

My favorite is this jersey. 2011 Jackie Robinson Day. I had it signed and inscribed by Perkins himself. I am currently thinking of a display for it.

My first is my favorite.
Every season, the Blue Jays wives hold a non-perishable food drive. They also sell Grab Bags during the sale. Last year for $25, the grab bag contained an autographed hat, along with a game used baseball.
Pretty cool.
This is one of the balls that I ended up with:

If you check the MLB hologram number online, you get this:
Session Name: NYY AT TOR
Session Date: September 04, 2009
Autographer:
Authenticator: AUTHENTICATORS, INC.
Additional Information: 3RD INNING PITCH FROM, JOBA CHAMBERLAIN TO VERNON WELLS. WELLS STRUCK BY PITCH - GIVEN 1ST BASE , BALL TAKEN OUT OF PLAY.
Pretty neat!
Well I decided to make it my mission to get it signed by Vernon the next time the Angels were in town.
Although I couldn't get any pics, I did manage this:

He only signed a few items that day, so I was lucky to get mine done.
Obviously I didn't have a lot of time to chat before the game, but I did tell him the story as I handed it to him. He saw the hologram, and paused for a second so I told him. He looked back at me, and said seriously? I told him yes sir, to which he replied "Wow!"
I think because of the story I got a little better signature that I might have gotten had I not told him. I know a lot of the time he doesn't put his number.
Anyways, it's my favorite item, mainly because of the story!

I caught David Hulse's lone 1994 home run ball. I guess that's the first thing I owned actually used in a professional game. It's still one of my favorites, but I only have two other things (besides dozens or hundreds of GU cards).

Nice!

That ball looks like it has a few hit marks, you should find the play-by-play and see who was hitting before Wells and see what the play was. Maybe someone got a base-hit with it!

Nice! I've never caught a foul ball or home run ball

I actually found the entire game online. I'll have to watch it again!

Sweet!

I just got a ball in that was pitched by Glen Perkins and fouled off by Gordon Beckham, but it has too many hit marks to be just hit as a foul ball. I went back and looked and it looks like it was also a base hit ball by AJ Piersynski

Ok. Mine is a bit different. I am at work but I was at a WWE Smackdown! event in Atlantic City back in 2003. I was sitting ringside and caught Stone Cold Steve Austin's Miller Lite beer can that he opened, drank, and crushed it a little like he does and I caught it in the crowd. This was the last Smackdown in March before Wrestlamania that year where it was Brock Lesnar vs Goldberg.

Nice! I think those beer cans are pretty collectable

Do you still have this ball and would you consider trading it ?

There's some cool stuff listed in here..

My first was a Foul ball Jeter hit in Spring traing my Aunt "caught" and she was lucky enough to have him sign it that day also and she shipped it to me.

My favorite, the only home uniform Will Clark wore during the 1989 World Series. Also singed and inscribed "gamer" by Clark. Not sure ill ever top that.

My grandfather caught a foul ball that Howard Johnson hit during a game against the yankees when I was a kid and asked him to sign it after the game for me. I still have that ball

My collection started with game used items only. My father was a disc jockey for 30+ years. Most of that time was spent in Cincinnati and he was able to cover the reds and bengals. When I was born in 82 he covered mainly the bengals. He brought me home items every game he covered. Every home game this continued til Paul Brown died and mike took over they cut down the number of press credentials significantly Dad didn't make the cut. Wrist bands towels chin straps the list goes on. Dad always made sure he got his press pass signed for me. It was the coolest thing ever. He got kicked out of the 49ers locker room getting joe Montana's auto for me. One of the coaches took offense to that and removed him lol. Dad recently asked if I still had this stuff of course I do I boxed it up an took it over for him to look at. I forgot one piece... This one

This is tony Dorsett mouth piece. Dad tried to interview him after a lose tony was so upset he couldn't talk spit the mouth piece out and nothing else. So dad said its ok but can you sign my pass tony did and walked off. Dad picked up the mouth piece and went on to interview someone else. Sadly when I moved to SC 4 years ago a box with the press pass and other high end stuff never made it here... Dad started me off right and got me hooked. I have some pretty cool stuff thanks to him.

My first is a bit different and may not count for two reasons but here it is:
7/25/97 - Braves at Reds (Braves won 7-3)
Kenny Lofton (during his one season with the Braves) got on top of the Braves dugout near the end of the game and threw handfuls of Bazooka Joe bubblegum to the crowd. I caught two pieces and still have them (unwrapped and unchewed)!
I said this may not count because 1) Lofton didn't chew the gum :D and 2) Lofton didn't play in the game.

Sidenote: My Reds lost the game but I got to see Chipper Jones, Andruw Jones and Fred McGriff hit home runs (400 Home Run Club members).

Got a foul ball from Terry Leach in '91. He, Tapani, Mark Guthrie and a couple others signed the program. I ended up getting the ball signed in '10 at Twins Fest by a bunch of the prospects & Dick Bremer then.

Favorite would have to be the JJ cleats.
