I would buy. You don't know how much he purchased the card for or who he got it from. He could have got the cards much cheaper and marked them up for what he thought was a good price. Granted he could have made much more money but if you are a dealer I believe you should know the hobby. If you don't it's easy to educate yourself on it. EBay is really easy to look up completed listings. And if he had to many cards to keep track of then the dealer should downsize.

On the Trout Gold Auto I would see if he would take $40. On the Myers I would see if he would throw in a magnetic holder. ;)

I would look at the seller. Is it a true dealer, who should know better? I might take it off his hands. Is it a dad and his son that set up at a show I frequent that I've never seen there before? I would probably clue them in (especially on the Trout).

It's the same on eBay: if I see an online store/mega-dealer with a steal, I hit the BIN; if it's a 500 FB or less guy, I drop them a note and alert them to the error (could be a fat-finger type job upon listing). I've even hit BINs with obvious errors in typing ($9.99 when he's got multples listed at $99.99) and then just canceled the transaction for them.

Bottom line: if it's your job to know better, you should; if it's your hobby, I'll cut you some slack.

You sound like a nice guy. But I, as well as many others, never got any slack when we first joined this hobby. I got ripped off several times by paying way more than something was worth. And it was my responsibility to know better. So, I had to figure it out, and then wise up. Nobody cut me a bit of slack. And nobody tipped me off. I had to learn on my own. I understand why you would do what you said. But there isn't a lot of us who got that help.

I'll buy and after I get the cards in my hands, I'd ask if he have doubles for the same price.

Although not ALL dealers / sellers are alike, I've gone to shows and pull cards from their boxes marked $1 or $5 each and after you spend 30 or more minutes pulling the cards you want, some of them will jack up the price. I tell them that the mark up price is $1 or $5 each and the common response is, "I put the cards there before it went up." I just leave his table pissed but move on not buying a card from them. In this hobby, it's always give and take. Take the best deal you find and give patience to the ones you can't / don't want to deal with....

I get the old "oh...that doesn't belong in this box" response sometimes. I just get what I can and move on. Never had what you are describing though. But it would piss me off for sure.
