Despite owning one, I never use a loupe to look over my cards. If BGS graders don't, why should I feel it necessary to?

Loupe is obviously better as you can see any imperfections better. With that said, I do not own one and have never used one. If you use good lighting and have good eyesight, you should be fine with most modern cards, assuming you know what to look for. Some people ignore surface issues and that kills a lot of grades. I don't grade older cards, so I won't give my opinion on them.

Just be objective about possible grades and remember that if you can see a flaw, the graders can too.
