Posted this on facebook and gotten some good answers.

"When joining a group break, do you want everything from the case or just the hits? I just saw a breaker post "NO BASE CARDS SHIP UNLESS REQUESTED." Thats just crazy if you ask me. You will always get every card of your team pulled in my breaks."

Some great replies

"I'd say give people the option. The reason is simple: If you don't collect base, then you can have the breaker donate it to Cards for Kids or something."

"if i don't get 100% of the cards i wont join. i don't collect base but i keep the rookies and give my kids the rest."

"most breakers wont ship base automatically when they are on their "N"-teenth case of a mainstream release. I know when it comes to releases like bowman and topps after the first few cases, some other breakers will offer the shipping of base cards or having them donated."

" Base should be in all the time , you pay for it so why not ! What you do with them its up to you ! And I do agree with josh on brand also ! Lol but its nice to have second card if you know someone who needs it for a set !"

"Base all the time. I build player lots and team lots for shows so the base are great for those. If the person says they don't need them, then that's their decision but I love that you include them"

I think its a nice thing on both parts to give the option. Or you can do a split price for Bowman and say hey, it's $28 shipped for everything or $26 shipped for Hits, RCs Inserts but no base. There are some sets where base are a big deal. There are many sets where I don't want them. Passing the savings difference in shipping cost on to the client is not a bad thing. You are not out any coin, and it saves you time.

Some people would see it as being cheap and chincy, but Id appreciate it as a break would be a few bucks cheaper and I wouldn't have the crap base cards sitting on MY table.

The answer, for me, is that it depends. If it is s break in which I have picked my team, then I most likely will want the base. If, on the other hand, I randomly get a team I am not interested in, then I may want the rookies and stars, but not all the commons. Sometimes I don't even want that.

This is a great example of you cannot please all the people all the time. Options are usually the best route in a case like this. And, when in doubt, ship it. The recipient can always toss them/give them away, but if you do, you cannot get them back.

Andrew, this is a great question and something we have gone back and forth on. 95% of the time we send all base, rarely there is a reason to not send all base. But I also think the consumer has to realize that the base cards increase their price per spot/team. Some of the newer releases have very thick, and very heavy base cards that will double (or more) the shipping costs, and those costs get cooked into the price per spot/team. I have to agree choices and options are key are this situation.

Great topic. I would be in favor of only getting the base if you request them. Otherwise, screw it. There are probably some who don't care and why go to the hassle and cost if they don't care.

If you're like me, and want them anyways, then just request and keep moving. Not a big deal if the breaker wants to give the option out.

It really depends. The one thing that I hate tho is when people formulate their break and find out spot prices etc and charge 3.50-4 for shipping plus more for supplies and then ask me to pay extra for my base. No I bought a spot for all my teams cards. Lookin at you Houdini. Not some of them and allow the breaker to keep them.

I would want the base. I don't see why I shouldn't get them. I could understand somebody telling the host of the break that they do not want their base cards. Or if its a multiple case break of something, I could see getting a certain number of base, such as 3 of each, or so on. I've never been involved in a group break, but I have been tempted many times

I always want the base. I enjoy trading with people, so even if I don't need it, I might be able to trade it to someone who does. And it makes me feel like I at least got SOMETHING if I get no hits haha.

I don't join breaks if base are not offered. I think it's a shame base cards are neglected these days. They all have worth to me. I think it's nice if you offer the option, then let those that choose not to take base save a buck or two on shipping.

I split a break with a guy for an Indians slot where I got any Albert Belle pulled and he got the balance... after the break, zero Belle's were pulled and NO "hits" were pulled for the Indians - leaving only base and the other guy messaged me and said I could have the base, he was only in it for the potential "hit"

I got in the 90's break recently expecting a lot of base. That's okay because I'm a player/team collector and not just a hit collector. Different Strokes I suppose.
