Don't single out the rich only - at least around here we have plenty of fans who couldn't call themselves rich but are just out the game to get attention for themselves with drums, whistles, horns and other garbage. They don't know jack about the game.

Most call them A's fans.

Then there are those people who go to a ballpark for the "view". Still others came to play with rubber chickens or to play on the Coca-Cola slide. And when you mention someone like Bumgarner or Alderson, they give you a perplexed look.

Most call them Giants fans.

I've had partial season plans for the Cardinals since 2004. This season I went to purchase tickets for opening day from the Cardinals site (not a scalper!) and the price after fees were $75 for STANDING ROOM. Sorry, I love my opening day streak but I'm not about to drop $75 to stand in a crevice of the stadium (plus parking, food, souviners, etc.)

Partial season packs have went way up as well so I didn't renew. I'll look for 2 for 1 deals and other cheaper options to get myself in the ballpark.

And before the "bad economy" is blamed, I don't find myself hurt by the economy in the least - I'm just refusing to pay those prices.

Most call them children.

But in general, I'd take a non knowledgeable touristy fan over an obnoxious symphony of out of season raider fans. At least the former doesn't irritate me.

MLB still is the best deal in sports. Just go on promotion nights most teams have, can end up being cheaper than a movie. Nothing beats a day at the ballpark. Every team has cheap seats and if you know your way around the stadium. You can be in the very expensive seats by the 3rd inning.

I simply plunk down $10 to see the Northern League affiliate Fargo Red Hawks. Decent baseball, you get the occasional former/future MLBer like Coste, parking is just a few bucks, and a beer is just a bit more than non-happy hour bar pricing. Not to mention there is not really a bad seat in the house. Attending just about anything else be it any top pro league, concert, show, or even the flipping state fair has become a luxury I can do without.
