man, just about everywhere in queens!

The Te-amo, Eisenstats, woolworths, mikes comic hut, everywhere!

I grew up in Forest Hills, I use to go to the Te-amos up and down queens blvd. There used to be a comic book and Card store on Austin Street, can't remember the name, but I remember going there every friday for cards and comics.

There's still a place on Austin Street, though it's pretty small.

Yeah but I know it a friend of the family bought it years ago, dont think they own it anymore. Plus they are extremely over priced. The place I am talking about first was next to where the Midway theater is, on Queens Blvd. Then moved to Austin Street. I think it is a bath and body works now.

My allowance was $1.25 a week that I used to go to the movies, buy popcorn and use the rest for baseball cards. That gave me about $.90 cent to spend on 18 packs. I supplemented my buying addiction by selling cardboard from the local furniture store or begging for more money (usually could get $.10 extra) from my mother.

But you know, I was able to complete all the sets from 1950-56 with relative ease.

I had to ride my bicycle about 2 miles to an Italian grocery store in Berwick PA but it was worth it to see what series was in stock if there were multiples that particular year.

What years were these you ask? Oh, just from 1949-1956.

baseball card shop. Every now and again, my mom would let us pick up an Upper Deck or Topps complete set at Shopko or (and who knows what I'm talking about Wisconsinites?) the Prange Way.

Mostly flea markets. Occasionally I'd get a box at k-mart or walmart but that was tough since my mom was opposed to me collecting.

I don't think kids walk to school these Days...too pampered. I remember walking to HS in the winter..I Showered and walked , my Hair was ice...that's when I had Hair.

Plus times have changed,Perverts,Scum, that prey on Kids.

Walmart, K-Mart, Hucks.

My Grandfather would pick me up from school, and we'd run out to Walmart, and grab a pack. Almost everyday. I'll forever cherish those memories.

He passed away this November, but now I have a little special PC of cards we collected together.

I was only slightly behind Craig.
I walked half a block down the street to the local mom & pop grocery store on the corner to buy my first packs in 1958, at the ripe old age of 6. I remember buying cards when I'd go downtown to McClellans, Kress' and Grants within that same time frame. By 1963, I went to the small local mall to Peoples Drug store (maybe that's why I'm addicted) to get the new series of Topps cards. They got to know me well enough that they'd hold out a series of each new box and charge me a box price, which was less than the $1.20 they would have cost otherwise.

Man, now all that's left is that shop on PCH and Western, South Bay Cards. Even Time out (Lomita) went under after I left the area.

I know the shop. South Bay Sports Cards. A guy I grew up with works there (or at least did for a looong time). His name is Scott. They used to have some incredible drawings. I remember once they had Harmon Killebrew signing there through Upper Deck Authenticated.
