Where do you store your high end cards?

What's your collection worth? Any true one-of-a-kind items?

I don't see much difference in holding a Cy Young cut auto in my hand and posting photos of it on the web at will. The latter happens to be my daily hobby. But if my house is robbed or burns down, I will still own that cut (and will probably need to sell it at that point!)

I know some disagree, but I definitely hear where miggy is coming from. I definitely can understand where someone would feel that if they don't even have the cards around on display (or at least within easy access) it detracts from the experience.

I understand what he's saying as well. Whenever the question comes up about how to store the fold-out GU from TTT, I always state that my 2007 World Series foldout is sitting open on my bookshelf. It has already been knocked around and dinged a bit, but I like looking at and don't think it will retain any long term value anyway.

My HOF auto collection is something else. For a long a time I had them sitting in a box in my office, but I found that I looked at the scans more than the actual autos anyway (as I was posting them around the web).

Do people take their cards out of plastic and physically touch them when admiring them? If not, why not? They might get dinged! Are they taking their stuff too seriously? Some would say yes, others no.

right now mine are in an airtight fire RESISTANT water PROOF case. I plan on getting a document safe to keep them in along with my BC and travel docs soon.

Why have a bank account? Don't you keep your C-notes on your desk to admire them?

If you have a PC of Todd Van Poppel and someone breaks in, they probably would just laugh and leave it alone. Even if they did take it, you'd be out what . . . $10?

But if they took a single auto cut of some HOF'ers, or a high grade vintage rookie or even a Pujols rookie--just one--you could be out thousands.

Well considering I easily have over $50,000 worth of Babe Ruth Game Used cards and other Old School HOFers like Gehrig, Cobb, Josh Gibson, Shoeless Joe Jackson, Jimmie Foxx, Jackie Robinson, Mel Ott, Tris Speaker, Roberto Clemente, Satchel Paige, Ted Williams, and Mickey Mantle in my collection at a minimum, I don't need someone to break into my house and rip me off because I need to ****** my cards so they don't lose their value. When you get up to the level of some of us hardcore collectors I may have a little more respect for your opinion.

Don't get me wrong, any of the lower end stuff is at the crib but anything that I deem is irreplacable, then in the Safety Deposit Box it goes. I have a almost complete 07 Leaf Fabric of the Game Football Auto Set with almost 100 autos of HOfers and current top players in the game with the majority of the auto's being #ed /5. Something like that would probably never be replaced. A lot of us have dropped some serious bank on our collections and do all we can to protect them from the crooks of the world.

Unfortunately my "high-end" cards are relatively few, so they are all on display behind my desk. No storage at all, but I do have insurance for all my cards and memorabilia complete with recent sale values and book values on a spreadsheet with photos. I update this sheet twice a year and turn in a copy to my insurance agent.

Do you have insurance through your basic homeowner policy or is this a special policy/agency? Wondering how I can insure my book/paper collections.

My high-end Brauns are in a fire box, but for some reason, like a dumb-ass, I have my high-end Younts with the rest of the Younts in a white box.

My High-end stuff is in a Safety Deposit box. My mid-end stuff is in a couple of firebox's. I understand that some people think that a SDB is overkill, but as other have said, when you drop a lot of coin on your collection, you safeguard it as best as possible.
