Who runs this site? If I need help and don't want to ask a stupid question on a thread, where can I go? Maybe a list of the top 5 trusted senior members can host a weekly live blog or thread for us newbies.

One place you can try is at the top of every page there is that cute chic (warning, that is not whos on the other end if live chat picks up) hahahaha, anyways, if Chris (or others) are not available for live chat, you can email them thru that same link. I have not tried it but am assuming it works as it says it does.

Hey Chris, that brings up a good point. Although it shows below our username if we are a mod etc, there is no list of who the mods/admin are around here. There was on the old board and i think it would be good to have so people know who to contact if they have issues. It really hasnt been an issue since most people have been around and are aware who the mods are but for new members.

thanks

I would also like to see a rule implemented about sellers posting prices.

It's such a stupid cat and mouse game that goes on when buying here.

"Hey I like X, what's the price?"
"PM sent"

This board is very knowledgeable with people who prospect heavily and collect heavily. We get that you want to try and get as much as you can for what you are selling, but honestly, who here doesnt know how to use the search function on eBay and other sites to find a fair price? Trying to keep your prices secret just makes you look bad, IMO.

It might be just me, but I completely forget we have a set builders section. I don't feel like enough attention goes to that. Once in a while I see it up at the top and think "oh yeah, that's there."

Is it because it's in the actual baseball section of the forum and doesn't have it's own thing like box breaks?

This reminds me, I miss seeing the names in red/blue knowing who the moderators were. Yeah it seems petty, but I overlook the "super moderator" or whatever underneath. I thought the color of the names was better.

All these different sections got me thinking...is there a way to personalize a view? For example, I would like Baseball, Baseball Breaks and Leaf all to show together in my view - instead of "having" to click each one.

I forgot about the set builders also....if it was in my view I would see it.

Can we create personal views with this product?

geez how long have I been saying that. Scans too

I dont think I'm saying anything Chris hasnt said here before but he never built this site to be a transaction heavy board.

It was meant for discussion. I have never really agreed but I think Chris is now on board about pricing which i think is a big plus.

Maybe a store would help too. Buying a box and then talking about it. BO has that. Group breaks where no profit is being made by the breaker is something BO also has. BO also has way more contest's. Plain and simple they have a store. The only thing I really check in for anymore is the Hot List on Friday's.

BO is a store and the forums were based on the store. BO breakers are also profitting. That rule went out the window awhile ago.

So are any of the changes mentioned in this thread actually going to be implemented? Because it seems like a few, such as mandatory pricing in the transactions board and merging section (vintage, TTM) with the normal baseball forum are wanted by a lot of people. But there hasn't been any indication that these suggestions are being taken into account or going to be implemented. It might be helpful for this thread to continue to move in the right direction if Gilmore or whoever else has the authority to make changes actually lets us know what changes are in consideration or going to be made.

I think a daily hot list with each day being a different sport would be a great idea if contributors could be found. My favorite part of this site that past year or so is the hot list.

And put me in the group that thinks prices would help the transactions board. If I'm looking through a sell thread, I very rarely bother if prices aren't listed and I can't imagine I'm the only one.

I am a member on beckett, scf, blowout and FCB.
Here is my 2 cents of what I like and dislike.

beckett (trade heavy site) Because of name recognition it was the first board i joined, its losing members but has a niche collector (base, set, player collectors) I do like the organizer and trade functions but have not really used the site since they started charging for organize and it was so buggy for a while. Not alot of HIGH END cards on the boards though. I think the members tend to start here and then graduate to a more sophisticated board like FCB at least thats what I did. Plus its blocked at my work.

scf (trade heavy site) - I like because of the ability to trade a variety of cards base cards, prospects, football, basketball, high end cards.
I also like the organizer they have, and I think the trade policy helps to keep you from getting screwed and I like the feature to post a trade/sell then complete feedback. I do hate that all the sub forums because you have to post in three forums to make sure you sell/trade thread is seen. Overall scf is a mix of people from FCB and blowout. I can access at work.

blowout (sell heavy)- I like because of the number of active transaction threads, decent mix of cards but mostly prospect heavy in my opinion. Not a huge fan of the feedback system, don't see much in regards to discussion on there. Cannot stand the GLWS! Nice cards posts worthless waste of time. I do like the mix of interest in other sports.

FCB (prospect and discussion site) - I personally come to FCB for the discussion threads and I think they are the strongest asset of this board. The main thing with the transaction forums is that if you don't have the newest Bowman Chrome Autos or looking to sell for way under ebay then no one seems to care. The FCb APP and new site are awesome and I don't remember the old site anymore so I don't have a clue why those that left chose to do so. I haven't had any issues and I use the site at work so some content is blocked. I do wish people would post pics of ebay links or what not so I can see them instead of going over to the app on my iphone. (maybe I just need to work more and fool around on this site less)

I think pricing needs to be addressed and a standard set.
1. Members need to agree on pricing. How much do you mark off ebay, if card X sells for 100, 105, 125, and 95 over the last 2 weeks, what should the asking price be? If I take off 10% (which seemed to me the normal asking prices from buyers) and I pay shipping I am making less than I would be selling on ebay. If I took off 5% then I make more money and your saving 5% WIN-WIN.
Member Bradical as a spreadsheet/program showing avg prices and recent completed auctions pretty handy thing and could be used to help determine an asking price. Online Price Tracking System

2. A board is all about its members and I think FCB has a great bunch of guys who enjoy collecting, know breaking wax is almost insane and prefer Bowman products, know buying singles is the smart thing to do and enjoy prospecting, baseball and the off topics threads are usually pretty entertaining.

What we need is a renewed interest in player collecting, cards other than just prospect cards or autographs, but the uptenth insert or base card of Josh Hamilton, set building, trading, football, basketball and other sports and the only way you can do this is to get more members with varied collecting interests and to vary the interests of our current members.

I also have to say I have started selling off the cards that don't interest me any longer for ones that do so yes there is someone out there who wants a Josh Tomlin sterling auto or Mike Stanton base cards we just need to direct them to the site instead of ebay.
I sold most of my football cards last year and narrowed my focus to Bowman Chrome Autos, SPA Authentic football patch RCs, Texas Rangers, and Kevin Durant. I have to say it trimmed by spending budget and makes my hobby much more enjoyable if not more difficult to obtain cards other than on ebay. Although yes my interests are a little more focused they are still varied enough that I can benefit from active transaction threads in more than just baseball. I also think the aspect of watching and winning an auction is more entertaining than just picking up a card at a discount and it also more satisfying to complete a trade than to just buy a card for my collection that I can get anywhere.

I think card companies need to make some changes as well and stop all the redundency and focus on a few select brands and provide the best content possible in those products.

I’ll preface this by saying that I never was a “large volume” poster. I do try to check in each day to see what folks are talking about, though. Anyway…

I had no issues until the site changed format. Now, if I want to post a topic or reply, I have to type what I want to say in MS Word first, and then copy/paste it into the site. If I don’t do that, there’s a likely chance I lose everything I just typed out because the vast majority of the time the page just locks up when I hit “submit”. I then have to refresh the page and start over. Repeat this process until the system finally accepts my post/response. I’ve experienced this hassle ever since the software change. This is the biggest P.I.T.A. when using this site, and to be honest it’s not worth my time.

(good thing I typed all of this in Word first. Ha.)

Anyone else have this problem? This is the first I have heard of it here.

I can tell you Chris, I agree with a lot of the thoughts posted throughout so far.

I know my interest in the hobby has waned (it's more because of financial restraints on my part), but I still enjoy visiting the site everyday.

It seems like I would post a ton, but I rarely post anymore. I think the lack of dynamic posts and topics (I think leatherman's statistic posts might be the best posts I read on here) has had a major effect on the site.

I also think that the football boards died for numerous reasons, from the change over to suspensions to people being upset over not receiving their prizes/giveaways (talking to a few of the guys no longer here, that really turned them off).

As for hockey and basketball, I think they kind of are what they are around here. There is a much larger and more active basketball board out there where most of the big basketball guys hang out (I visit it from time to time) and, if I recall correctly, there is also a pretty big hockey exclusive board out there as well.

I think FCB still has the ability to be one of the larger, more active sports card message boards on the net, I just think the growth will be MUCH slower because of the website design change and the boom of Facebook groups (whether people want to admit it or not, the groups on FB have stolen a LOT of activity; I was in a few/have read up on a few and though they are not thousands deep, they are active EVERYDAY and spend copious amounts of hours in the groups, since most people spend so much time on FB as it is).

I will always hang around the site for many reasons, but the #1 reason is the camaraderie I have with many of the members of these here boards.

I am on board with where ever the boards head, but I truly hope you read what people are posting here and make some of the changes mentioned (combining vintage with the main board, maybe moving the set collector's board into the transactions forum, thus putting more eyes in both forums, etc).

VIVA LA FCB!!

It happened to me a few times after the initial change but not since then

Did you conciously do anything to fix it?
It still happens to me almost every time.

Even when I log in, I type my password and click the button and the page just sits there "thinking about it" for about 20-30 seconds. Then it finally logs me in. Madness.
